NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

It's the voltage. As soon as you start ramping up the voltage temps will increase.

Plus with water and a back plate i'll be cooling the memory chips directly too.

I understand that the heat will rise with the volts, but there is currently so much headroom to raise the heat that I think you will hit a stability issue before a heat issue. Cards can only take so much volts before it just doesn't want to accept anymore.

My old 290x was underwater and had a big overclock. It has the 2nd highest 290x 3Dmark 11 GFX score on these forums. I stuck a custom bios on it and put the volts up and couldn't get the card stable. It hit its overall max.

I guess we will soon see :)

Just a heads up buys, I have 2 of the Aplit cards with the blower cooler in SLI and because I'm running mATX they're literally sandwiched together.

Temps on the cards are good with them hovering around the 72-77c mark wen overclocked.

They are noisy when run together, but not that noisy.

I expect that anyone running them in an ATX motherboard with at least a slot between them should have lower temps and noise levels.

Testing the AIR BOSS COOLER, OMG easily the best yet and in normal auto fan it is so so quiet, amazed Inno3D have the best cooling solution, I AM IMPRESSED! :)

The question is are they worth £30 more than the MSI or £20 more than the gigabyte.
Also do they have dual bios's ? and what do they look like when running.
i need to order two today so cant decide, £320 is quote a lot above the normal 970's and not much over £100 of a 980.

I have a mATX board also and thinking do I go SLI or wait for a gtx 990 dual gpu? What case do you have?

970 g1 decision

got myself a gtx 970 gigabyte g1, to summarise it has a lot of coil whine imo but i'm not sure whether it over clocks well because if it does that might be a reason to deal with the coil whine?

Haven't run heaven for hours but no visual artifiacts and okay temps at 1580mhz core, any higher really and there is prominent artifacts.

Do all the 970s have this bad coil whine or is it worth just keeping it.

ps: asic is 76.8% if that makes any difference.

Still pondering over which card and I'm not very clued up on the tech!

Based on previous cards and their bios', is there likely to be a custom bios for the Gigabyte G1 that will give 0dB under a certain temperature, like the MSI and ASUS?

Also does customised firmware mean void warranty?

Thanks

Has anyone managed to fit the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 into a Zalman Z11 Plus case? I would love to buy one, but I don't think it will fit or it's going to be a very tight squeeze.

According to Guru3d, the card is exactly 297mm, not 312mm as reported by most websites. Is this true?

I've got 2 of the msi 790s in my zalman z11 and I think they are the same size as the g1, they are a squeeze but not too bad

Could someone with good knowledge of graphics cards please hazard a guess?

Thanks :)

It's definitely possible to write a custom bios that allows the fans to turn off at a certain temperatures. I doubt that gigabyte will release one but I am certain that a 3rd party will do it (like skyn3t).

Also as long as you can flash the original bios back onto the card then the warranty will remain. I returned a rubbish 780 lightning that I flashed Skyn3t's bios onto and reflashed the stock bios back on before return.
