NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

I've just purchased the Dell U2715H monitor so I want to upgrade my aging GTX570 to a GTX970. Not fussed about the VRAM issue so now need to decide on which one to get but I'm limited to cards of less than 11 inches due to my case. At the size I need the KFA2 970 Infin8 would fit as well as the MSI 970 Gaming (any others brands below 11 inches?). I'm leaning towards the KFA2 but cannot make my mind up! Any recommendations? Thanks!

I could use some help with, looking to mod my bios for a few reasons

1.Remove the minor throttle that kicks in at 67/68c
2.Bake in my boost/memclock OC
3.Maybe up the overall powerlimt

Im a bit confused by some of the tweaker settings.Heres what i came up with so far,by extracting my Original bios and changing some values(84.04.1f.00.F1 ,day1 MSI 4G bios)

Boost clock should be 1531mhz
Mem should be 7610mhz
voltage 1.225v

I have no idea what to change in the Power tab tho

Can some1 have a look at help me out
Bump for help

I still dont understand a lot of the options in the tweaker :/

My god.

I love this kfa2! Build quality of the card is superb. The metal fans nearly took my hand off accidentally though!

Whisper quiet, littttle bit of coilwhine/electrical noise initially but it dies down after a few moments :) Cannot wait for witcher3 and gta v :D

Hi guys,

Looking at this card for a while now for 1440p and some 2160p gaming.

1. I was wondering if a BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply would be ok for this GPU?

2. Would it fit with my Asus P8P67 Intel P67?

3. Is my Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case big enough for this card?

4. Would my i5 2500k and 4gb memory limit the GPU?

The 290x was another option but if I can run a 970 with my psu/motherboard/case then this would be a better option and save me upgrading my computer!

Thanks :)

Dependant on your quality settings a single 970 wont play too great with a single 970 from experience (on the res's you specified). Not sure how long the VRAM will last at them resolutions either, just a thought :)

Go with the 290X for 1440p or 4K it shines at those resolutions vs the GTX970.

You should be fine with your current setup, you might need a new PSU though for a 290X :(

He means you'll need at least 3 or 4 of those cards to run well at 4K, Hes right too.

More hassle then needed going for 3-4 cards. Two are always the sweet spot and you should probably be looking at something higher end (GTX980) for 4K.

Both the GTX970 and R9-290X are fine and trade blows on most resolutions but I don't think either cut it well for 4K unless dropping AA and settings to low-med. ( OP said some 2160p. ) So I think he just wants to try it out.

Yeah I understand I won't be able to play games at 4k on ultra with a 290x or a 970. I'd just like to play some games at 4k with low/medium settings as I've heard people say that even on low/medium settings it can look better than 1440p on high/ultra.

Basically I've had my computer for 4 years and I want to try some good quality PC gaming.

I'm going to buy a 4k monitor (probably the phillips) so will switch between 1080p, 1440p and 2160p for gaming depending on what looks better.

So I can buy a 970 and it will fit into my system, no problems?

290x might require a new PSU as some of you have said which is putting me off a bit.

Getting coil whine from my Kfa2 silent black edition when playing hitman and battlefield now.

brought a new PSU to see if that solved the issue and it hasnt :( its not to bad though but still might see about returning it or replacing it
