NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Hi all. I just received my new 970, the KFA2 one here - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-010-GX

It is my first ever nvidia GPU!

I am very happy with the performance of it. It is eating up GTA V, but I am totally unfamiliar with what to expect in terms of temperatures and fan speeds. Could someone kindly advise, or point me in the direction of a discussion that could help me work out what fan-profile to set up? Currently it sits at default 30% when idle with a temp of 30c, and after an hour of GTA just now it peaked at 66c with a fan speed of 80%, which was a tiny bit loud(still not bad though!). I would like to minimise noise if possible.

cheers

Its not a term I'd actually heard of until recently, I had to do a search and watch a video to realise what it was. I think it would drive me mad, noisy fans I can cope with but I don't see how coil whine is acceptable. Luckily I'm getting old so should loose my ability to hear that frequency soon.

More hassle then needed going for 3-4 cards. Two are always the sweet spot and you should probably be looking at something higher end (GTX980) for 4K.

Both the GTX970 and R9-290X are fine and trade blows on most resolutions but I don't think either cut it well for 4K unless dropping AA and settings to low-med. ( OP said some 2160p. ) So I think he just wants to try it out.

I am playing in 4K with 2x MSI GTX 970 Gaming cards and they do just as fine as the 2x Asus GTX 980 Strix I've been reviewing/testing. Not really any hughe performance difference.

I've just changed from Asus GTX 760 mini to GTX 970 mini from gigabyte, but have a really tight and hot enclosure.. don't know if it's got the same performance as its full size counterpart.
can't even play wow 4k with it... got a curved 4k LG 55UC970V

WoW Engine is so badly optimised....try proper games with it like GTA 5/Dying Light/AC Unity/Far Cry 4 if you want to see it's true power.

I remember using my SLI 680's in WoW yet it still ran horrible completely maxed due to the shadows completely eating up my FPS....turn them off totally.

So I came back to a gtx970, an Asus strix version to be exact, and what a stinker I got :(

Asic of 63% and its barely boosting to spec of 1253mhz, coupled to the fact its hitting 85+ degrees and the fans are very loud trying to keep it all under control, it even crashed on futuremark benchmark with nothing overclocked, same system has had a 290x running no problem so its obviously just a dud :(
