Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Have noticed during OCing my EVGA 980s that GPU-Z and EVGA PrecisionX 16 report different GPU boost clock figures. Am assuming PrecisionX 16 would be more accurate of the two? Why the difference though?

I have two 980s that I'm considering selling for a Titan X or two, but I just feel like I should forget upgrades until 14nm...

stick with the 980's, im on 3440x1440 and nothings troubled them yet

It's mostly for GTA5, in most areas I'm over 80FPS and fine, but it does go down in city when busy to ~50 for periods of time, and I want to play with 3D vision, meaning that feels like 25.

it all depends if the cost is worth it, the guy who sold me his 980's lost about £400 on them then bought 2 titan x which is about £1800 so not a cheap upgrade, but what can you do, when the upgrade bug strikes its hard to resist

Would have no idea how much they are worth really though. On Ebay they seem to go for about £350 so in that case I'd only lose £100 on the pair, and a single Titan X wouldn't cost much more.

I'd lose some power, but gain vram, avoid SLI issue, gain DSR (as it won't work with SLI and GSync), etc.

I did ponder that as if I can get £300-£350 each for them (they cost me £380 each like new) and wonder how much 980 Ti's would be. Although if they come in at £550-£650 each which I think they will then thats too expensive for not enough gain. I would rather wait for the next replacement. Also I have not really pushed my cards yet they are currently at 1508mhz on stock volts with +100mhz on the memory. I have also just discovered in the Nvidia control panel there is an option - Power Management. This is set to adaptive as default. If I set it to prefer maximum performance my GPU goes to 1516mhz and I have also found that Far Cry 4 no longer crashes with nvidia driver errors and 3d Mark is a lot more stable. So I still have room to play with OC. I think I have spent too much in the last 6 months anyway so I can afford to wait.

Anyone know of any after market coolers that will fix my situation other than the EVGA hybrid coolers or full blow water cooling?

Due to being mATX and my 980's being next to each other im getting mega high temps playing GTA V.

So much so i have a aggressive fan profile in afterburner, keep the side of my case open and have a desk fan blowing air into the case.

So far this has only been needed on long GTA sessions. Stock fan profile i get a lot of white noise on the screen in bands, black screens and then crashing.

Keeping temps under 80 and i get non of these issues. Really annoying.

Currently setup is like this

A lot of the coolers seem to take up more than 2 slots which i cant have.

I play at 3440x1440 34" ultrawide and a single card doesnt cut it.

water cooling loop, I love mine. GPU under full load has never gone over 50c, Just played GTA V for 4 hours with my 980 clocked as high as i can and voltage as high as i can and it hit 46c this eve. also has the benefit of being almost silent and taking up so little space on the card :) downside £300+ for a dual card setup
