Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

I love my 980sc, totally worth selling my 290x.

Same here, got mine at 1450mhz core 24/7 for gaming, it'll go beyond 1500mhz core for benching.

+1  Crysis 3 is master of card destoyers. I laugh when i see Crysis 1 now and remember how it used to be the same. Even Crysis 2 is a doddle maxed out.

By this time next year I think we'll have a single GPU that can max Crysis 3 @ 1440P. The next target after that will be 4K :p I'm sticking with my 1440P screen until it dies though..

We don't mind a bit of air-porn around here. Even if it's not real porn. :p

That's how you bypass a loop BTW dangel ;) x

What are the temps like running 3 cards that close?
I'm quite tempted to do this too.

I wouldn't personally - I don't like having such a tight clearance over the upper card's fan (although the blower does pull air in from the right anyway). Then again, I wouldn't run two on air either so close (i'm sure it's fine regardless)

Rainforest has cancelled my order on the mispriced 980. I didn't expect them to follow through with it considering the massive loss they would take.

Really impressed by the stock coolers, even though one of the idles kind of high due to it not having much space, but at full throttle it doesn't go above 70 with my overclock so pretty happy.

I hope so, I would love a card that owns 4K and then I will still stick at 1440P and use DSR or max out AA :D As of right now I am toally happy with 1440P, love my ROG Swift.

So what clock have people managed to get on their 980's? So far I'm up to 1506 on the core and 3903 on the memory. That's as high as I've actually went on the core so it still has some room left, will try and squeeze some more out of it later. If I clock the memory 50MHz higher it was causing 3DMark to crash. Max temp after 30 mins on BF4 was 76c.

I'm all on stock speeds till I get the waterblocks in - tbh given they tear through games in SLI i'm not worried :)

has anyone took there Reference cooler off. I looking at the 2nd photo here it looks like the large plate that cools the ram and VRM's can be removed from the rest of the cooler

This is good for me as I have a couple of Swiftech MCW82 which could be used to cool the cores :)

As you'd expect. Bit warm. Nothing a ramped profile will sort out. No throttling though. They're the best cards yet to have in Tri SLi.

Water wins hands down though. Can't stand blowers :p

Yeah, I'd go water eventually.
Trying to decide if I should return my 295x2 and 290X and get 3 of these for 4K gaming.

I suspect there will be better 900 series cards out before too long though and it might be more annoying if I have the 980s (as they'd cost about £300 extra after returning current cards).

Does anybody know which screws you need to remove to just take the front of the shroud off? So the backplate and metal vrm plate stay in place like in this picture below:
