Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

I want to wait for 8GB versions but it just got a whole lot harder..

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Classified ACX 2.0 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (04G-P4-2988-KR) £599.99
Total : £609.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

For me the main selling point of the 980 is the low power/heat combo. Dual 8 pins are nice but too hot for a multicard setup.

That's aside from the fact that evga can never seem to ship them in the right quantities and you need to faff with custom water blocks.

£600 also strong money, I wonder how much the 980ti classy will be ?

I went and bought two 980s as an upgrade... Shame they perform far worse than my 780tis, despite everything I read up on about them before buying.

Team Fortress 2 FPS minimum 150 on SLI 780ti, perfect for my 144hz monitor. Getting lows of 90 on 980s.

Got pretty solid 80+ FPS on Crysis 3 maxed out with occasional dips on 780ti. 980 dips below 60 regularly.

SLI 780ti Furmark Benchmark Preset 1080: 10569 (min 175/max 180/average 176)
SLI 980 Furmark Benchmark Preset 1080: 8358 (min 137/max 143/average 139)

"worlds fastest GPU" my arse.

Were those 780Ti scores taken on release drivers or mature drivers?

If that is implying that any 780ti vs 980 benchmark I've seen has not been performed on the same driver, I'm done with computing. Apparently the entire industry is built around illusion if that's the case, since obviously any comparison I need, I will be using the latest drivers.

Why the hell would you compare a 780ti's performance on its release drivers to the 980 on release drivers? If I'm looking to upgrade, I need to know performance of them on the latest available drivers regardless.

I was just meaning that performance might get better as the drivers are tweaked. No idea what drivers websites use, maybe they get beta's from AMD/Nvidia?

I find that often they don't re-run tests for every card in the graphs they show. So their 780Ti results could be from when they reviewed those cards when they were released, meaning much earlier drivers.
It's just a theory. Most sites usually say the drivers used don't they?

Most of the results in the bench threads show 980's destroying everything so not sure why they're worse than your 780ti's.

Strange, they are faster, what's the rest of your spec? tried using DDU and doing a fresh install of drivers?

btw, run some proper benchmarks.

Well, I got my EK 980 backplates. No sign of the blocks shipping yet even though they say 'in stock' on the EK webshop they don't appear to be actually in stock.

They are nice people over at EK but like all small businesses they can be a bit cheeky in this regard ;)
