Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Seems to draw approx 300 watts more than siting Idle when gaming. I.e. my Corsair link shows a jump from 190 at idle to approx 600/650 peak.

(that's with an i920 too at 3.9 too mind)

Perhaps 150 watts each ?

I reckon an 800 watt or 1000 would be enough. (I run an AXi1200 for reference)

Cheers for that, I have an Evga 850w, so might be pushing it a bit. Might buy the 2x970 instead.

That PSU is plenty for a pair of 980's.

My system with a single 980 and 4770k @ 4.5ghz when gaming is drawing 330w. A decent 650w would have no issues with a pair of 980's tbh....

Trying to run my 980s on my Rampage IV Extreme with a 3930K.
They only seem to run in PCI-e 2.0 mode though. I've run Nvidia's tweak to enable PCI-e 3.0, but it hasn't made any difference. Does it not work with the 980 drivers?

Would updating my motherboard to the latest BIOS make any difference?
As I'm running 3 cards 2 of them are running at 8x, so I'd like to get them working at PCI-e 3.0, especially for 4K use.

Also, 3 run together like Frosty has but on air, very very toasty!

Did you check what I suggested?

Yes, they were set to Gen3 anyway as I was running AMD cards perviously that have no such issues with SB-E.
I did try running the exe as Admin, can't remember if that was before or after your suggestion. Didn't make any difference. I even checked the Registry and I think the relevant value was set to 4.
Maybe Nvidia have changed they way it works and the old tweak doesn't cut it any longer?

Works for me with a pair of Titans. Ask Whyscotty when he's next about, he runs a similar setup as yours with a pair of 980's.

Definitely not working of me. No idea why (there's not much to mess up running an exe).
Annoying as it seems the only way around it is to spend about £1000 on Haswell-E.

From the other thread the only real difference between our systems is the BIOS version of the R IV E, but I can't imagine that would make any difference. The tweak was out when I got the board and my current BIOS was the newest (or close to) at that time. Also it worked in PCI-e 3.0 with my 290s.
