Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Definitely not working of me. No idea why (there's not much to mess up running an exe).
Annoying as it seems the only way around it is to spend about £1000 on Haswell-E.

From the other thread the only real difference between our systems is the BIOS version of the R IV E, but I can't imagine that would make any difference. The tweak was out when I got the board and my current BIOS was the newest (or close to) at that time. Also it worked in PCI-e 3.0 with my 290s.

Been doing some reading pre-req is that your CPU is at least stepping C2. If its a C1 stepping the hack won't work. Have a little look on CPU-Z.

I will check mine in the morning now.

Yeah, I saw this and checked, thinking as mine was bought quite early that it would be C1, but CPU-z reports C2.

No, I'm still pre-that-change-they-did-for-win8 (where they changed the format of the BIOS). 1202 or something like that, no newer than 1404.
Can't see how that'd make a difference though. Interested to know what Besty's on.

Well the only way to find out is to update. I'm running 4901 and it's a decent Bios. The only difference between your system and Whyscottys is, he's on a later bios than you and having no problems running the hack with is 980's.

I am C1 stepping. Latest BIOS and apart from the Quad SLI problem I am having its rock solid. losing settings is a pain but take photos with phone.

Do I have a problem?

Hi Guys,

Some advice please. Have my EVGA 980 SC which I fitted a an EK waterblock and backplate to at the weekend. All seems to be working ok, except that the card is not downclocking at idle according to GPUz - it is sitting at boost clock on the core 1392Mhz, and memory at 1752 Mhz.

Trouble is I don't remember if it was doing this or not with the standard air cooled blower - I think it did downclock then, but not sure? Has anyone else had or got this problem? Or have I perhaps inadvertently damaged something while fitting the waterblock and backplate?

Any help/advice appreciated guys.

Mark

No doubt Whyscotty will chime in on what Bios version he's running.

I think he said in the other thread (Besty's Quad-SLI one) that he's on 39xx.

Ah, soi the C1 will be stopping you.
I've got screenshots that you take from within the BIOS, but not sure how much the newer BIOSes change.
I really should update, but I tend not to unless I'm having issues, which I guess I am now.
Sorta want Haswell-E though...

Swapped my reference for the Twin Frozr version. What a stonking card it is! 1541/2052 and I haven't even touched the voltage yet.

Dead silent as well. Super happy. Very much looking forward to seeing what 20nm offers.

Was a bit dissapointed at the lack of haribo though this time :D

Any software running in the background? I know running at 144Hz for example won't let the gpu down clock fully.

Try a clean driver install too.

Thanks for your help,

Something strange happening - ran DDU to clean up, and then tried custom install, and the driver install hung. Just uninstalled again via NVidia, re booted, and re installed using default install, says it failed on the game controller, but not worried about that. Card is now downclocking ok. Think the driver somehow got corrupted. Will see how it goes.

Cheers

Mark
