Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Does anyone know if OCUK Saturday delivery includes the text message with drivers name and 1hr slot it will arrive?

Nice guys, well done.

Normally I'd join you as a new adopter with GPUs but this time I'm waiting for 980ti classis or a Maxwell Titan of some description before upgrading. Really don't need to as the 780s do a stellar job but the itch won't go without being scratched.

not sure about text message but if yoou open the link ibn the email when the driver starts you can track him via gps gives you 1 hour slot & tells you your delivery number

then will say driver on job 2 your delivery is 84

Games seem to be "losing focus" randomly. Locking up for a bit, minimising to desktop and in the case of Rocksmith going into slowmo.

When we tested yesterday we were noticing some stutters in SLI, this could just be an extension of that. Might disable SLI tmrw and see if the issues continue.

Might be the drivers, did you DDU before installing? I had a couple of lock ups last night so decided to DDU this time and install afresh. Nothing to report so far on Titan Blacks

DDU i find to be terrible.

Nvidia clean install is good enough. last time i used DDU it broke my windows updates options to be always off...

Well after a play with the EVGA SC 980's here's my initial findings.

Stock clocks of 1241/1753

Core clock
1st card - boosts to 1380 and the 2nd to 1393 :)

Both OC'd to 1506 :D
I would say that they are limited by the power limit rarer than volts, with a custom bios and underwater these should fly

Memory - Both have Samsung
1st card - 700 for 8406ish
2nd card - 600 for 8206ish

Gaming temps (stock clocks) on auto fan setting rarely broke 65c (very quiet) :)

I had the fans set to 100% during benching(max temp was 78c) - was audible but not annoying (subjective)

See Firestrike benches for results :D

Very good results with initial launch drivers - hopefully they should get better :)

I am a little worried how the stock cooler would perform with 3 cards next to each other.
Sorry I missed this, we tested Tri-SLI.

Since the cards are much cooler than previous generations the performance is surprisingly trouble free. Obviously there is no breaking the laws of physics but Nvidia also have a clever new feature on the GTX 980 stock cooler.

That little removable panel allows better air flow to the card above.

EVGA 980 GTX arrived an hour ago :D Did a quick and dirty overclock of 203Mhz on the core and 259Mhz on the memory. Ran through Firestrike without a hitch though I heard the fan speed up noticeably at points. Still a quiet system though. Firestrike score was 11334 and I know this card can improve on that.

Nice touch with the Nvidia bridge Scotti. :)

Can I ask, why the SC version? Is it not worth just getting standard and overclocking it yourself?

I decided on the SC in case they were slightly better chips, seeing as I was going to pay over £400 the extra £30/£40 was worth paying into the silicon lottery :D

Started "small" so far, +125mhz on core and +95mhz on memory. 40 mins of Watchdogs (4x TXAA looks AMAZING!) and didn't skip a heart beat. I have set my own fan profile, and it hovered just under 70c and not much sound difference with other fans at high speed :)
