Interesting, have you swapped to windows 8 your self?

And yeah I have no clue on that front, I even tried to manually set it to 8x/8x/0x but didn't change anything when I checked in GPU Z.

No I haven't, but comparing with other scores, the only difference is Windows version.

Just the difference between Windows 8 and 7 in FireStrike, unfortunately.
 
anyone who's w/c'd their 980(s) see much improvement (apart from lower temps/noise)? i always tell myself it's not worth the hassle but then when push comes to shove, 'well the loop is right there...and i have to drain it to remove the old card anyway...'
 
on an unrelated note, does anybody play diablo 3 on a 980 and do you get driver crashes in it (driver stopped responding)? it's happened about 4 times now, screen freezes for a second or so and then carries on, except now the card is at max clocks (o/c'd clocks) for a few seconds, then clocks down again.

be surprised if it's a hardware fault given it happens with both my cards and they're not exactly stressed by d3! eg they'll run heaven or valley for hours at 1450 but d3 pootling around at 1230 (or below!) running 25% gpu load causes a driver reset?!?
 
Whats a safe 24/7 voltage on a G1 980?

Stock voltage is 1.212v and with that i can hit 1385MHz core which boosts to 1499MHz and memory at 8000MHz.
