Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Single 980 for 50 - 60 fps max settings at 1440 in most modern games but sli will see you max everything and be over 100fps, no issues with sli apart from some games not supporting it but that usually gets fixed at some point

I've contacted KFA2 to see if they'd send a new fan kit out for replacement, if not the card will go back this week...

Gutted :(

I wouldn't even risk trying to replace it myself on a card a few days old.

The KFA2 cooler really is a piece of **** to replace.

The heatsink and fans are removed with just 4 screws around the core and it comes off as one.

The VRM and VRAM heat sinks are separate and connect to the back plate.

I'd give you mine but I need to keep it in case I sell in the future.

Hi There,

Please return it to the main retailer as it sound like it has taken a knock to it in manufacturing.

So you can get a working replacement asap J

KFA2 European Support

Mines got to go back, not happy :(

Has anyone used the Gigabyte Windforce 980 GTX? ( Not the G1 )

hers my score,

think im 1506 core no voltage increase as adding any causes crash.

Same here, Mine will stable boost to 1540 but any volts and it crashes.

also

I have been playing skyrim for hours with the HD texture pack using DSR at sorry 3840 x 2160 to my 1080p monitor and my inno 3d is just sitting there at 53c. I know this is not ideal test but I am so impressed...

Edited for correct DSR resolution

Neil, have you tried removing the card from the slot and making sure the fan isn't clipping anything to make the ticking sound your hearing?

If it isn't coming in contact with anything try either tightening the screws that hold the fan in place or slackening them off slightly.

It's probably due to an uneven amount of pressure. I wouldn't go RMA'ing the card until you've tried this.

Typical.

In all day and DPD wants to deliver my water block between 17:21-18:21.

Was hoping to have it all sorted by now!

Oh well not long to go then I can start to overclock this puppy.

Still well chuffed at the speed of this card at stock playing BF4 on Ultra 2xAA 1440p.

Glad I did not go sli as you really dont need it.

This will serve me fine until the 980Ti/390X comes out.

Yep.

minus the shipping fee.

;)

Same as me - works well. Must admit I sweated a bit fitting it, as it was the first time I had fitted a water block to a graphics card, but all ok :D

Ah, so it fits OK? Think I'll just pull the trigger, unfortunately the back plate is out of stock so might need to source elsewhere.

** Edit **

Also, will your stock back plate go back on if needs be? I assume it was just fixed with screws as normal?

Hi, thanks for your response...
I have a windows case too & its beside me on the besk.

Looks are a bonus but not a necessity.

Performance is key I guess as my 1440p oc (to 90hz) hazro needs some extra power to achieve the frames in fps games ! A long warranty is also a need in case an issues & helps sell on.

I would like a back plate as I find without the GPU will sag, that's the only thing letting down the MSI...

Does the Strix logo light up ? I read the review & they state it does not but it seems to glow in your photo... A lighting up logo isn't high on my list but as I won't look into my cade while gaming...

Strix logo doesn't light up. It's just shining off the lights in my case I guess. Based on your preferences I would say your best bets are the Gigabyte, Galax, and EVGA cards, which normally offer more overclocking headroom than the others, and have a backplate.
