Nvidia GTX295 Information

Another gaffertaped wonder. Im actually wondering do nvidia do this just to get the thing out as fast as possible or are they technically unable to do it (4870x2 style) due to chipsize or something along those lines.

Hmm ... with 300W power consumption and two opposing heat sources perhaps it's nickname should be the toaster!

Good to see some competition of the AMD X2's ... hopefully they will get cheaper soon.

I really can't see it being that cheap, Ati have so much scope for price drops that Nvidia simply don't have. Lets say Nvidia release a zero profit card at £400, ATi can just say, screw you 4870x2 for £280 if they want easily and still make a profit. Nvidia may aswell sell it at £550 because the fan boys will buy it at £400 or £550, the later gives their very low margin partners a much nicer profit on the very few of these cards they will sell and I honestly can't see them selling that many anyway.

I've only read the bit-tech review and most of the results you'd be hard pressed to feel the difference between them, Deadspace I don't much care about and seems absurd performance and ridiculously bad on ATi so you'd assume they have a lot of room for improved drivers for that game. Several area's the 4870x2 takes the lead and was 50% faster in , forgot what it was, far cry 2 uber high res was it? Who cares frankly, either card will give great performance at 1920x1200 which is the highest res really in use. 2560x1600 is so rare in use that I couldn't really give a crap. Frankly I don't want to sit at a desk with a 30" screen, 24" feels a tad too big but liveable- 30" is ridiculous.

If both give more than ample smoothness in all the same games at 1920x1200 max detail, then why on earth would you spend a heck of a lot more on the 295gtx, and on a card that will be around a fairly short time till 40nm parts are out. I've had my 4870x2 for a few months already and will get another 4 months maybe till its beaten by the next set of cards. By the time you can buy this you'll be paying more for a card that will be obsolete in 3 months.

I agree with [H], a joke of a card for fanboys only(and even then only the rich and stupid ones).

why the hate on nvidia? ati did exactly the same with the 3870x2. just to get back in game and ati fanboys fell for it. nvidia has the top mid range card ( 216 maxcore), the top single card (280) and soon the top x2 card. its better to wait for the 295 than for hotfixes :D .

What are you smoking? The fastest SINGLE card is the 4870x2, going by the looks of this card from the articles they probably won't be reclaiming any titles back anytime soon.

Hmm some would argue both the ATI X2 and Nvidia GX2 are not single cards and SLI and Crossfire are not ideal.

Some will say ATI is a single PCB others will say its still got 2 Cores.

Nvidia do have the fastest Single Core card PERIOD if you want it that way plain and simple and the only slagging it got at launch was PRICE and thats why the 4870 512 then 1GB got the sales, both of which can be matched/beaten by a GTX260 (216).

I do not think any company can boast that 2 Cores beat 1. ;)

The reviews show it is winning back the so called "Crown" and that's not on retail samples or mature drivers.

Its soon 2009 and I do not think the "year of the Dual Core Cards" is here yet, I will stick to Single Core Cards.

Probably do the same here, GTX 285 looks like it will be my next :)

Short lived these things though arent they? I believe I read (admitedly on a dubious website :D) they are going 40nm in march. Although, this 295 is late as it is, so maybe thats optimistic.

They need to do something, by competing with ATi on price, there not exactly flush with cash.

The only game its winning its got an advantage on in the benchmarks on hardocp is farcry 2. Crysis warhead theyre pretty much even and fallout the 4870x2 beats it out by 10fps compared to the nvidia card winning out in farcry by 8.5fps. Theres not much in it at all.

Very strange going by all 6 reviews I have read, its far more then 1 game. ;)

I even linked to 4 of them in 1 post then another in a separate post.

AGAIN, these cards are not Retail sample nor is drivers optimised for them. :)

Again I wont buy a 2 Core/PCB Card in 2009.

Well have a look at the hardocp review. Thats the only one ive looked at, do any of the others use actual gameplay or is it all canned timedemos?
