this shows up on my playback devices and works fine but,do i need the audigy card connected for this to work?

im thinkin gettin plantronics 995?headset and mic wireless for ts3 gaming and removing the sb.
thanks

I believe the grfx card outputs sound only via hdmi on mine. Not sure about outputs on other cards though, maybe others have alternates.

Just made me realise I know nothing about the way graphics cards process and use this sound. Where does the sound come from? Onboard? Soundcard? Direct from applications? I also know nothing about it's capailities and whether you can feed a microphone signal back, although I note that my ATI HDMI option has no recording ability.

if you have dont have a cable from your soundcard to the graphics card and you still get audio over hdmi, then your graphics card has a sound processor onboard. older nvidia cards didnt have this, newer ones do.

Tealc, as above older cards need an spdif cable joining the soundcard to the graphics card. new cards like your ATi dont as they have an spu onboard. they literally ARE both a graphics card and a sound card in one.

you cant plug anything in to your ati card, it is strictly audio-output only.
