NVidia: How to limit fps?

Does anyone know how you limit FPS with Nvidia cards, mostly for older games like Dead Space 3? My card can run it at like 300 fps which of course is a waste. I'd like to be able to have some program developed by Nvidia or another reputable company that can limit my GPU to only render a game to reach 120fps and never go over. Mainly for temperature reasons etc.

Why does it have to be a "reputable company or nvidia"?

There is nvidia inspector which will achieve this. However it doesn't fall into the above two afaik.

Or afterburner?

All I can think of is V-sync. Which in a few games makes things worse. But usually it helps limit the FPS to something like 60, if that's what you're looking for. I especially use it in a few game games where the FPS jumps up to multiple 1000s in the menus (likes to make coil-whine).

Agree with the post a few above.. MSI Afterburner, you can pick your fps speed with that.

I don't know if I did something wrong but I had to use the RivaTuner thing, couldn't see an option in AfterBurner.

Worked perfectly, very happy with it (tested it with ShadowPlay fps counter to make sure).

I limit my games to 75 fps (3440x1440) via MSI Afterburner which is based on Rivatuner I believe. You need to install the additional server service during install and access the GUI for that via AB to enable global or individual fps limits.

I do it for both lowering overall GPU temps and achieving a good average fps i.e. in FO4 it mostly stays at 75 fps 95% of the time with a few dips during busy scenes or when stuff loads in the background.

Adaptive vsync will match your monitors refresh rate and keeps things smooth. Full vsync can cause random glitches sometimes.

where do I find adaptive vsync in the NVidia control panel please? ive started getting tears on dirt rally and its driving me nuts lol I have vsync on in the game itself but sometimes get stutters if the frames drop just by 5fps

Manage 3d settings, then its the application specific tab instead of global.

Scroll down to vertical sync drop down.
