Right so im officially very tired of ati's appaling linux drivers and am planning on switching my awesome 4870 (on vista) for an nvidia card about as good or better, but i dont get the new number scheme or which ones now the best, 2nd best and 3rd best cards! (wasnt paying attention at the last set of card releases)

Could someone please explain which nvidia card is about as good as my 4870 or better? (it also can't be any longer or draw any more power as im not planning on demolishing my sg03 setup more than i have too)

GTX260 216 core depending on the games played is equal or slightly better

GTX280, GTX285, GTX295 are all better

Ah right so bigger numbers=better makes sense cheers.

Whens cat 9.1 out? There needs to be a serious improvement for me to stick it out (the 2D performance in linux has been pretty shocking let alone 3D)

I should have read your post & not the replays as i didn't see the linux part.

I always found it annoying that ATI only released drivers once per month. If I had a problem with their drivers I'd either have to use an earlier version or wait until the next month and hope that they fixed the issue I was having.

Nvidia don't release 'official' drivers too often either, but beta drivers are released regularly which can be tried. Far better IMO.

You never seen a ATI Hotfix then.
