Linus Torvalds is just a touch unhappy with Nvidia:

'Linux creator and Millennium Technology Prize laureate Linus Torvalds called NVIDIA the "single worst company" he and his associates dealt with. Torvalds made these comments in an interactive session with students, developers, and entrepreneurs, at the Aalto Center for Entrepreneurship in Otaniemi, Finland. The session was conducted in English.

Responding to a question by one of his audience complaining how NVIDIA was extremely stubborn in sharing technologies such as Optimus (dynamic switching between integrated and discrete GPUs) with the Linux community, and seeking his comments on the matter, Torvalds called NVIDIA "one of the worst trouble spots [they've] had with hardware manufacturers." He continued "...and that is really sad [for NVIDIA], because NVIDIA tries to sell a lot of chips into the Android market." With this comment, Torvalds reminded NVIDIA that its business with Linux isn't confined to client computing platforms such as PCs, but also the Android-driven portable computing market (of smartphones and tablets), which is growing at a breakneck pace.
Torvalds soon escalated his assessment of NVIDIA as being "the single worst company [they've] ever dealt with." Torvalds then got more 'graphic' (pun intended), and flipped the bird to the cameras. "...so NVIDIA, **** you!" he exclaimed. The recording of the event is embedded below. The part in question starts at 0:48:10, though the entire video makes for a very good watch.'

Didn't link the video showing the strop, due to swearing and the finger.

Fair enough he's not happy with team green but it's a bit on the immature side imo.

McDonald's is the single worst company I have ever dealt with, whenever I go in and ask for a Big Mac they expect me to pay. <finger>

Nah, he did it in a jokey way and it expresses his emotion towards nvidia quite well imo, plus will go viral and really point out nvidia for what they are. He is right, nvidia are making a lot of money through linux, yet offer no help, as far as a business model goes it's pretty narrow minded.

Linux?

Really couldn't give a single toss.

Obviously you could, as your posting.

Back to the actual topic ...

This, to a geek, is funny as hell. And doesnt really tell us anything we didn't already know.
But maybe someone high up at nVidia will realise that they trying to stick there hardware into linux based products, while not actually suporting Linux very well is a very bad idea.

How does Nvidia compare to Microsoft? I heard recently that Microsoft was the single biggest contributor to Linux changes, but presumably only for their own ends.

Not the first or last person to voice such an opinion about them.

This.

Nvidia has a long history of alienating their business partners, one can't help but think that eventually it will catch up to them and bite them in the ass.

Not an NVIDIA apologist, but NVIDIA a bit slow in providing recompiled drivers for every version of their drivers for Linux every time Linux Kernel gets updated even though Linux is a tiny part of their customer base shocker.

Linus should provide a stable API for drivers before ranting IMO.

AMD manage support across kernel versions because they have limited open API interfaces, MS and Apple have no trouble because they provide a stable interface,
