NVIDIA Maxwell architecture is coming sooner than expected (can’t share any details yet).

In a Videocardz post regarding upcoming HD 9970 12-layer PCB, they hint at Nvidia Maxwell launching much sooner than expected. I know this article is about the HD 9000 series, but let's be honest Maxwell is far more interesting :p. Hopefully this means we will see Maxwell on 20nm sooner rather than later :)

These next lot of GPU's are going to be ridiculous. my 780 is running games smoother than a cashmere codpiece @ 1440P. With Maxwell rumored to be coming sooner rather than later will probably skip AMD altogether now and go GTX 780 - GTX 880.

Tbh who cares, amd already have gaming under the thumb and while working closely with consoles they get first hand and first dibs on any games developed for the console to work better on their Amd hardware. Its very good long term strategy and i can't imagine the endless possibilities this will bring for them.

Really considering moving over to amd for graphics for my next upgrade.

I'm not so sure it will work like that tbh. Consoles using PC architecture will not only benefit AMD but also Nvidia and Intel. Nvidia are stepping up their involvement with the big name games as well. Witcher 3 with Physx is a big sell for Nvidia imho.

Take a look at some of the upcoming Nvidia flavored games below,

You've said the same thing about playing @1440 for the last....5 cards? :D
You're the type of person where everything is smooth/maxed/best when using the hardware currently inside your case, so not exactly the most reliable source, i'm sure if you were to switch from 780s to 620s they would play @max smoother than a smooth thing from smoothville...

As for being ahead of scheduled, sure but probably only a month ahead of their original road map, so these still wont be showing their faces till Q1 2014 earliest.

If anything my opinion should hold more weight as I have actually personally tested 99% of the videocards out there :p. Either in my own rigs or customer builds. I'm not biased either way either like some of the fanboys.

Think about it. Obviously if I have just bought a new GPU I bought it for a reason, i.e there was improvement in performance or value for money. So yeah I would like whatever I'm currently using the best, else why would I buy it? Lol.

The 780 is a monster, even at 1440P. 'Literally Titan' performance..

Crossfire was never 100%, the more I switched between single and dual cards I realized I'm sensitive to micro stutter or whatever it's called. Generally I prefer SLI, the problem before was no single card could really handle 1440P except Titan, but was just to damn expensive. So cheaper dual cards were a solution but not ideal, now the cards like 780 and soon HD 9970 can handle 1440P I don't see the need for dual cards. Will be using single GPU from now on.

Will likely switch up cards again at some point, it all depends on what I find available and it's value VS price.

Before the 780 their wasn't an affordable single GPU that could handle 1440P, that's why cheap dual cards were a good option but never ideal. Single card is always better than dual.

Now we have the 780, and it really is a beast, I'm getting performance similar with the Titan I tried out for less than half the price. Nuff said lol.

780 is a good card but it most certainly isn't a game changer for those who run 2560 res, it also isn't exactly "affordable" at £540 :)

Totally is a game changer in the sense it's a more affordable single card that can run games @ 1440P. Before the 780, there was only the Titan.

I didn't pay anywhere near that price ;)

Shop smart peeps.

Shopping around ain't gonna find people a GTX780 at £450 :p

The 780 is faster than the 680 well within peoples' expected marginal of performance increase after over 15 months, but the price increase from the launch price of 680's £400-£420 to average of £530 to £650 is silly.

Mine was inline with previous X80 launches. So yeah it can pay off to do a bit of looking before a purchase. Not sure how many will blindly buy a product without a bit of research first? Especially when spending hundreds of pounds, but that is down to the individual. Price changes the whole dynamic of something being worthwhile. For me it def was a worthwhile upgrade. At £550, there was no chance..

Back on topic, Maxwell is going to be mental. Think how good the 780 / Titan are, especially when overclocked. Now think new architecture and die shrink..
