nvidia or amd card?

@pgi947, I don't have a clue on the vram temps, I wasn't aware you got readouts on the vram, is it in gpu-z-if so what reading is it?

It cost £300, so I can't complain@1140 tbh, although it would have been nice to have a good clocker, for a saving of ~£150 over launch, I'l live with it.:)

@spoffle, from what I've seen, the Asic reading tends to be correct in terms of what kind of stock voltage your gpu puts out, low Asic=high voltage, whereas the high Asics=low voltage, but I'm in agreement that it's mainly a lottery in regards to oc'ing.
 
IF you have the option of reading memory temps it may only be available in afterburner (as it is for me, no other software will read the sensors correctly).

Sorry Tommy although I don't disagree with what you're saying, you are slightly missing the point. It's like I'm talking about chips and you're talking about eggs! :)

A constant price drop in relation to the competition heavily points to an inferior product. I'm speaking about all of the price drops post Kepler release. As I said, we know it isn't inferior but in terms of the market this is how it is viewed. Not just about graphics cards, about everything.

And most people don't really follow things as much as we do. When you get down and analyse it the difference in quality between items priced as such is often minimal but most people when purchasing anything in general don't research to the n'th degree and just do some basic research.

Although by no means an expert I do have some basic knowledge about this by having studied some economics at uni. Not saying you don't know what you're talking about or anything like that, I'm just trying to articulate how it looks from a different POV.

Sorry if that sounds condescending - it's not meant to be! :)

Funnily enough, I don't even agree with that POV that I described but that's because I have a wealth of graphics card knowledge to draw upon so I can make a better, more informed decision if I was purchasing today.
 
Anyway back on thread...I have now installed 7950 in computer, reasonably straight forward (had to move a HDD down a bay as the card was longer!!), plugged it it and installed driver (updated to 12.8). No issues...working a treat :)
As regards, o/c, this seems to be easily done in the Catalyst menu & it o/cs when you put the card under stress (only 'tweaked' a little as it is fine as it is).
Originally bought this card as it has 2 DVI ports - yep, connected to my monitors & works flawlessly :)
Thx to all who allowed me to make an informed decision.
(btw. after the event I came across this site...http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html, which compares cards. Lucky it seems I got the right one :) )

Hm, I think anyone who reads reviews would agree that PassMark / G3D Mark is pretty useless for comparing cards. If you want to see overall ratings for cards I'd recommend something like:
techpowerup.com
computerbase.de
or
anandtech.com/bench (but they don't update their reviews with new drivers)
Problem with all of them is though that overclocked cards are not in their indexes and the 7950 is just crying out to be overclocked since its default is so low.

Yeah but your extra 2GB is wasted going on the fact you play at 1080p. You'd get marginally better performance with the same card of a 2GB variant as the memory timings are tighter on 2GB cards.

Its a shame that the newer gpu apps don't show and adjust the Vram timings like ATI Tray Tools.
