anyone have any experience with FSX and gpu issues?? here's my story, well worth taking into consideration if building a system for Microsoft Flight Sim X.

As per my sig my sytem should be more than capable of playing FSX without any problems and it does now but not before I repaced a 4870x2 with a GTX 260! go figure.. well turns out it's all to do with the way in which ATI cards are structured and subsequently handle weather in FSX and the anti ailasing is also of next to no use in the sim. when selected my frame rates dropped to an unplayable 7-10 fps. Now there is a lot of tweaking that can and does need to be done in fsx settings to improve this and I'd encourage anyone to make sure they experement. It's also worth noting that FSX does not engage a 2nd GPU either from an X2 or X-fire/sli setup amnd also that the sim is very CPU hungry so get a good quad core and at least 4GB Ram.

So in short I bought a GTX 260 from OCUK for under £115 and problem solved, playing on very high settings ( allbeit with some tweaking) however my average FPS is 45+ and the sim is smooth as... And my other games are all very playable using this card.

I think theres a way to force multi GPU in it but results are unpredictable...

Last I heard the nVidia 9800GTX+/250GTS was the fastest card for FSX, which is a bit odd as the 200 series aren't hugely different architecture wise and have a lot more SPs, etc.

So GTS250 is faster than a GTX285 in FSX?

I can't see how, I think he meant there is little differences between them

if I remember correctly, there was hardly anyspeed boost from a 9800 to a GTX260

I haven't checked the benchmarks lately but I seem to recall from last time I looked in FSX the GTS250 was just very slightly faster than the 285GTX unless you ran at very high res then the 285GTX came ahead a bit - the game is CPU bound quite badly anyhow.
