Nvidia (possibly buying) Via

They aint bought them yet, so topics misleading.

I was going to post earlier but thought not worth the hastle. although there was a time VIA had the best Chipsets on early AMD DDR CPU's

The issue is whether Nvidia get to keep the X86 CPU license if they buy them. If so we're all good to go for a third CPU architecture floating about. K10/Yorkfield (soon to be Shanghai and Nahelem) I guess this would be in reply to intel's larrabee project.

I don't think the X86 license is transferable from one company to another. If nVidia acquires VIA, VIA will lose x86 license automatically and nVidia doesn't get to build x86 CPU's. In other words, I don't see why would nVidia buy VIA. They already have better chip sets, better GPUs and other tech.

On the other side, I could see them buying a PCB manufacturer to make them their own mobos and PCBs for GPUs...

More direct competition in this market is always welcome. I used to always have a VIA chipset, but intel owns all at the moment. Collusion would be a good thing.
