Computex 007 Meet NB8E, new G80 chip in 22W+ envelope

WHILE THE ORIGINAL G80 chip was a monster and consumed over 100 watts of power, Nvidia decided to mark this summer with its NB8E chip, a re-spin of the original G80 that will address the enthusiast notebook segment.

In order to fit the power envelope, lots of changes have been made, from the way the chip is manufactured to the functional units themselves. Even though these cuts will decrease 3D performance when compared to the desktop, this will be a most powerful chip for notebook market. Currently in roadmaps we have seen somewhere between Croatia and Taiwan, NB8E should come to market as NB8E-GTX, NB8E-GT and NB8E-SE. These codenames will probably end as GeForce 8800M GTX, 8800M GT and 8800M GS.

For the end, here's a teaser. For dual-PCB 7950GX2, Nvidia used G71M, mobile version of its ultra-successful G71 (7900) chip. Guess what becomes a possibility if the G80 is packed in 22W+? µ

I'm guessing a mobile 8800GTX would end up somewhere around the desktop 320MB 8800GTS performance which is still damn good if you have a res that's not something ridiculous like 1920*. Bet it costs an absolute packet though...

Would love to have one of those! As said above though... The price will no doubt be nuts! I wouldn't be able to swap out my 7800 for one anyway, think I'm limited to 7900go.
Anyone seen any results of the 8600 mobile chips? I had seen that a few laptops were being released with said chip.

im guessing that the 8600 go will be around the same performance as the 7600gt, giving the difference between the destop 8600gt and 7600gt.

Think you could be right, I saw one review when looking around and the 3d '06 score wasn't too great at all. Mid 2000's with a 2ghz C2D which I'm already beating at the moment on a 1.6ghz CD, maybe just immature drivers... Time will tell.

Slightly off track has anyone got laptop with a go7900 and 1440x800 screen as I'm looking at getting one but can't find any benchmarks or reviews online
