Nvidia preparing new Geforce with GK110

Thanks for the update Gregster.

So no new card announcement then! What an anti-climax!

Yep. Tomorrow could bring some GPU info but I have a nagging feeling that it isn't going to be anything big.

From start till the end of Batman, it was a top notch showcase and then just listening while the attendees watched the Assassins Creed: Black Flag and Watch Dogs (which I wanted to see badly).... That sucked :(

Yeah Ubisoft you killjoys.

Black List, pushing GPUs everywhere lol

If you play Arkham City now, it runs sweet as a nut for me even in DX11. I didn't get it till late last year, but from early reviews, it was a mess. I am tempted to have another play of it now. I am so getting Arkham Origins.

AA was unplayable for me using Amd with dx11 turned on but I had a go a few weeks ago with my 780s and it runs like a dream now. Should do bloody 3 years later lol

FS was just about to buy a pair of classifieds, now I read today about new hardware.

Those Classy's are excellent and will clock higher than a Titan (generally). Wait it out till tomorrow but I don't see anything awe inspiring in the top end and maybe a dual core 790.

20nm is the next big thing and I doubt we are seeing that till the end of next year.

Maybe you can give me some advice if you'd be so kind. I run a single 1440p monitor (same as your new one) and I have absolutely no need for high end cards* but I still want a pair now.
I sold a 780 GTX as I regretted not getting a 'better' one eg; Classified or Lightning etc, (Gaming OC clocked badly) and it was struggling slightly with some title at that res (talking like 35-40 fps). Then I read around and as I'm just an air cooled tweaker it seems those cards are not really worth the extra. For example, the classified is about £50 notes more than the Superclock ACX and I'm just not wanting to repeat the same 'mistake'. I want my games over 60 FPS in 1440p and whilst one card will do that most of the time I did see a few moments where it dropped like in Bio Inf and FFXIV. I will likely change when the next true gen comes out as you predict end of next year, unless my cards are still providing a solid experience. I have a Seasonic 850 Gold PSU, I presume that is ok for 2 780 and a slightly OC 4770k.

*When I do play modern games I do like to max them out though of course.

If they are not going to announce a new card, here's hoping Nvidia will drop prices for the GT770 instead to compete with the Asus R9 280X. Wishful thinking I know!

No probs Noxia and I have seen you about these forums, so know you have been reading up on what is what. The hard part for me is deciding for myself but easy to decide for others :D

As the price of those Classy 780's is quite high and you want a constant 60 fps, that will work out to over a grand. Sure if you are happy paying that, go for it however, why not go for a 7990? There is a HIS or a Gigabyte for the same price and cheaper than a single 780 Classy. You also get 14 days DSR with OcUK, so if it isn't doing what you want, send it back and then go for the 2 780's (I would go for cheaper versions if I wasn't going to water cool though).

Something to think about anyways. Gibbo has said the price of the 7990 will go back up, so jump in now and the 290X should* be out by the time your 14 days is up.

*I make no guarantees of this though :D

Thank you Greggster. Firstly let me say with absolutely zero sense of arrogance and without ego, money isn't the factor here. That said, I am not going to go Titan 3x as that would be totally overkill.
I had a 7990 pre ordered in September when they were £499, I then started to read more and this is where I learned 'coil whine' and 'micro stutter', this unfortunately put me off and I got the 780. The 780 was absolutely brilliant in terms of volume, I barely knew it was in there half the time and performance also great. The 7990 sadly just screams loud and hot at me and my prior fears are still not addressed, I also get this nagging feeling that it feels like a dead before it arrived type card and doesn't seem very popular for whatever reason.
I am not biased towards either team but I have had only issues with the red side although this was prior to the AMD takeover I think.. Had a GTX 460 which if I recall was very loud and hot. I was VERY tempted to take a gamble on a £436 7990 today but now they're gone I don't think I want to risk and waste mine (and OCUK) time with ordering and RMA. I'm not disregarding your advice here but I should have included the info in my OP. At the moment I feel as you said, wait to see if the R290X shapes up and either go for a pair of them or back to the old faithful 780 but a pair. I won't lose any sleep if they drop the price of them by a few quid overnight.

Good man and I see you have done some searching about. Don't let anyone tell you what to spend your cash on or try to make you feel guilty. You earn it, you spend it and that's the bottom line. You are also looking at it from a point I admire in "Buy now and if prices drop, hey ho". We would never buy anything if we sat thinking of regrets all the time.

Good shout on the 290X and if it does live up to the hype, jump on those bad boys and if it doesn't jump on a pair of 780's. No hardship either way and possibly only a few days waiting for official reviews on the 290X, so not long at all.

I am sure you will choose what suits you best :)

Ohhhhh and Gregster with one 'G'....Don't want to be confused with that old person Gregg (with two GG's) :D

It's a long wait though, I miss playing my games but it's only a week potentially, if nothing by 25th then AMD can do one. If they turn out meh then nothing has been lost either way. Apologies about the spelling, autopilot took over on that one. Thanks again :)
