Nvidia purevideo?

If you have an MCE you need a DVD decoder, the Purevideo one is regarded as one of the best for Nvida cards and MCE.

as mentioned above, if you run WMCE and have a NVidia card I have found it the best quality codec by far. well worth a try

I do have FFDSHOW installed as well. mainly for decoding DIVX files

Didnt really like the powerDVD codec, thought it looked a bit grainey. just my 2 cents though

try em all and let your eyes deciede

So FFD show which is free is better than purevideo which costs money? Why would anyone buy it?

Well FFDshow on its own won't allow you to use MCE2005, you need an approved CODEC installed, FFD show is a postprocessor not a codec (last time I checked).

Purevideo is much more than just a decoder.

Chances are if you dont know all this stuff means, they you dont need it.
H.264 Decode Acceleration
MPEG-2 Decode Acceleration
High-Quality Scaling
Spatial-Temporal De-Interlacing
Inverse Telecine
bla bla...

But if you want the best from your MCE on a big LCD TV, its worth getting.

So if you have Purevideo installed should you uninstall FFDSHOW and Power DVD? Will Purevideo include scaling and support for Xvid/Divx files (FFDSHOW) and also for DVD-Videos (Power DVD codec)

Whats this CoreAVC ive read people running hi-def stuff said the nvidia ones pretty bad and there using that CoreAVC codec instead....

Havent checked into it though/

Dunno even if its a codec

CoreAVC is for H.264 decoding (MPEG4 High Def), I'm not sure if the H.264 MPEG 4 decoding is working properly yet in Purevideo (even though the website claims it is).

Purevideo is the bomb for MPEG2 and CoreAVC is the bomb for MPEG4 AVc (H.264).

FFDShow is a postprocessor that comes with some codecs e.g. libavmpeg2.

GPU support is planned for CoreAVC.

If you have a Dell2405 then Purevideo + Zoomplayer gives an almost perfect picture you would otherwise not have due to the TFT technology on the panel causing grainy noisy images + upscaling a dvd to 1920x1200 produces lots of artifacts as the dvds are mastered @ a much lower resolution.

Purevideo only works with DVD players which allow you to select the mpeg2 decoder like Zoom & WMP10/11. It also only works with mpeg2 material (mainly dvds). Powerdvd6 does not allow you to select your mpeg2 decoder. FFFDshow is another excellent free program which allows you to customise exactly how a dvd plays and on which codecs it uses.

The reason Nvidia charge for Purevideo is because the company which owns the mpeg2 standard insists on a licence fee for every product sold. Nvidia would like to give it away free but are prevented from doing so because of this licensing fee.

I'm dissapointed, I run a modest 3.40GHZ P4 HT,2GB RAM,7800GS+512mb,and the nStand(purevideo codec) uses 60% of my CPUs,and the NVDVD (2.67 end user version) uses the 40%, Also the picture is far better, color, range, etc.
Playing the purevideo showcase.
it is very funny talking about it when the image sucks and an older version seem far more better.
