Nvidia pushing adverts to users? via "drivers"? cynicism or truth?

I just downloaded whatever the latest Nvidia drivers are at work. 500mb! wow.

Alas, I noticed that I am bombarded with adverts for the 20xx series during the installation process.

But it did get me thinking. How much this is a necessary driver update, and how much of it is a great way to push an advert to every single person using your cards? It does stand to be abused that is for sure.

Maybe someone very technical would know how important this driver update actually is. Because I sure begrudge downloading Nvidia adverts if that's all I am doing.

PC at work ?? I see zero points of driver update if You are not gaming at work simple.

Yep Nvidia drivers are serious bloatware these days. But as above, you can just install the driver part and skip the control panel, spyware/adware and other software.

Why does it matter? It's just marketing. No different than walking in a shop and seeing their products advertised all over the place,or watching a movie on TV and suffering the 5 mins of commercials every 20 mins or browsing facebook or …..many other examples of advertising being pushed
Besides, who sits there and waits for the installation to finish anyway :). I'm off browsing or doing something else.

You know, if you play the 20 series release recording from last week backwards you will hear the devil saying "I will get you" and also "Buy the 2080 Ti" somewhere in there, if you listen carefully.

I guess it depends on how obtrusive you find the ads. A couple of ads when i'm installing drivers is no issue - it absolutely doesn't bother me in the slightest and I'd rather that than adverts popping up in the drivers or worse on the desktop/in game.

I explained why. It would be rather annoying to be told you need a new "driver" when in fact you don't. The driver makes no gains, it's just an excuse to push adverts to those using Geforce Experience. That is my point and why it matters.

I am not saying however this is what is happening. But it seems a tricky Nvidia would be unlikely to look over.

you explained why ignoring the fact it's just marketing and almost every other company does a similar thing. Its a few images, hardly taking up much space/bandwidth.

The thread seems more about being upset with nvidia generally and on a crusade against them.

Yeah the latest drivers are more support helper services, largely for things people don't care about, than driver :(

Strange thread. Adverts like this have been in drivers for as long as I can remember and not something I care about or fuss over. I go and make a cuppa like Andarial does but I guess if you are easily swayed by adverts, I can see why it would worry you.

I can't believe you're annoyed because a company puts adverts for it own latest products in it drivers :D

I could understand if the adverts where for something that had nothing to do with NVidia products

So many are failing to see my point. I am not concerned with Nvidia putting adverts in GeForce experience. I understand that.

I am hypothesising that is it possible that a driver update wasn't at all necessary OTHER than to push adverts for the new cards?

Comprende?

I do have an issue being told I need a 500mb driver update JUST to be shown adverts. ( I have no idea if this is true but just thinking out loud).

AMD advertise AMD sponsored games, or at least they did last time I installed catalyst. Not exactly bleeding edge these days :p
