It looks like GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 won't be the only Maxwell-based graphics cards NVIDIA plans to launch within the next 30 days. The company is readying a third SKU based on the chip, the GeForce GTX 960. The company's next sub-$300 graphics card, the GTX 960 will be launched some time in mid to late-October, 2014. The company's GTX 970 and GTX 980 will come out later this week (19th September), timed with the Game24 event. There's no word on the exact specs of the GTX 960.

I think this is going to be an interesting card. No one is going to expect huge performance or have very high expectations but I think this card could punch above it's weight.

If you consider the likely price it could offer a lot of bang for buck.:)

Two of these in SLI should be interesting and very cool running.

^^ Vanilla Nvidia Ref cards possibly but vendors like EVGA etc will double that Vram same as always.

So even though it m ay not have the GPU grunt to use all that VRam in single card use it will help in SLI.

I would guesstimate a card with GTX770 performance but lower power consumption at around £200~£220 mark, and the GTX770 price get knocked down from the current £200~£220 down to £180 remaining £10 above the R9 285 at £170, thus the refresh under the "new gen guise" would then be completed with the 980/970/960 replacing 780Ti/780/770's price points (and 780/780Ti going EOL) ;)

The price differential between vanilla and ODM specials tends to be too steep to make it worth it. The other issue is that the ODM specials tend not to be allowed to use reference blowers*, and the stirrer style coolers, while quiet and cooler for a single card in a well ventilated case, do not work particularly well in SLI, which is what you would be doing if you want a cheap multi GPU setup which is faster than a single top end GPU setup.

* I'm not sure if this is by Nvidia's command or whether it's simply that an increased VRAM board normally requires a new board design which then makes the use of the reference blower unsuitable.

Rebranded 7 series card with additional number jump to make it sound like a bigger upgrade?

Sorry to sound cynical, and I'm a 780Ti owner but I can totally see them doing this.

670/680 and 780 all had blower cooler options even though some Vendors offered 2x VRam.

EVGA has 670/680 4GB models that had Exhaust Blower cooler but only the FTW 670/680 models had a custom PCB/Phases and Vapour Chambers instead of basic heatpipes.

Same as older series, nothing has changed.

I must have missed the 6GB 780s with reference blowers. I only saw custom ones on sale. Would have been interested if I had seen them.

That 6GB with the reference blower must have been discontinued, it's not listed on the EVGA site (and wasn't last time I looked). Shame as like I said that would have interested me.

Yip it either is EOL and/or sold out or it never made it to retail but other vendors did make them AFAIR.

I would not use a non Exhaust blower and I was looking at them so must have.
