Now i see where that 88 million would come in handy.....

to afford a top of the line gaming rig, where the manufacturers find a way to jack up the price of one up each year round. :rolleyes:

That's a false economy as far as graphics cards are concerned, imo.

By the time most people would think about buying a 2nd or 3rd card there would be another card out which is at least twice as fast as an old SLI/Crossfire configuration, not to mention that SLI & Crossfire don't scale that well really.

I never said anything about upgrading to a new card :confused:

I said when one of your cards dies later on your knackered, as chances are by that time those cards wouldn't be made anymore as the new ones are now out, so an RMA wont get you another one of those cards for your SLi if theres none left, so its bye, bye to your SLi, its happened to loads of ppl, thats what happens when the new cards comes out, they stop making the ones before, like when then 8800's came out, the 7900's were stopped, so if your card dies a good while after the new ones are out, then chances are you won't get another one from an RMA due to there being none of those cards left, its one of the pitfalls of SLi, so you have to sell the other one as you cant do SLi anymore as they will have sent you a different card, they only have to give you equal or better performing. :)

Well he could just accept the card he gets on warrenty and sell it and buy
another card for his sli second hand or if out of warrenty buy one second
hand to slot back in. More hastle than its worth though lol.

im talking about if that 3 card sli supported the low and mid cards then this would be a good idea. because it'll give tho's people who have the low and mid cards a cheaper way to get a performance boost without spending lots on a top end card...

That was announced a while back, thats why the NF680i mobos have 3 full length 16x slots but the middle one is electrically 8x so will be the Physics card, I do not see how you need a GTX or Ultra to do Physics, surely 2x GTX's/Ultras with a 8600GT/GTS in the middle.

I don't think SLI as it currently stands is 100% bulletproof, as it causes crashes in some games/scenarios that a single card solution doesn't have to worry about. My gaming rig (albeit a little old now) has benefited in speed from the addition of the second 7800GT, but is no where near as stable as it was under the single card.

If nVidia is struggling with SLI drivers now, imagine what it'll be like with 3 in SLI !!! More trouble than what its worth.
 
Reminds me of the old 3DFX roadmap of just whacking more chips on the card rather than improving the technology. In the end we all went to Nvidia's Texture and light cards (i think thats what they were called) rather than having these huge radiator style cards that barely squeezed into your case!
