Nvidia Refurb- Whats the story?

Not sure what they are to be honest, some decent prices and some strange prices. I'm thinking they have to be treated as second hand but with the bonus of a 1yr warranty, which is why they are 'pricier' than second hand. Some good buys and some not so good.

I think they are as stated, refurbished cards.
I'm fairly certain it mean that they have been sent back to the manufacturer and whatever issue they had had been sorted ( dodgy memory, capacitors replaced, fans, heat sinks etc. I'm sure they even change out the core if needed) and then tested to be like new then sold on as refurbished products that OCUK has obviously bought a load of to sell on to us at some very nice prices. :)

I'm guessing they are cards that have been RTM'd for whatever reason - probably a range of reasons - some might be RMA returns others lines retailers couldn't sell at the price they bought, etc.

I can imagine that a fair few will have been returns because of reasons like:
- Wont run stable at stock voltage. Solution... bump voltage slightly in BIOS.
- Overheating. Solution... re-seat HSF.
- RMA. No fault found but punter doesn't want card. Solution... no action required.

And I can't see any issue myself with purchasing a card for reasons like the ones above. But the only thing is... you can't tell what the reason is/was. So for some people that would preclude them from buying such a card.

I'm not convinced that actually replacing components on the PCB would be cost effective (not considering how much man power costs these days). Might be wrong there of course.

In the end. It's up to the individual and you pays your money and takes your chance.

This is a refurbished fully functional product, it may have minor visual defects and is just a bare card, no cables, drivers etc.

What is this "minor visual defects"? Is it just some scratch on the cooler, or is it artifacts in games?

think about when if you were to buy a refurbished gearbox or engine for your car, they change any bits that need changing clean them up test them and bobs your uncle, one guaranteed refurbished part at a really good price.

I would very much imagine the "scratch on cooler" type defect.

If it was artifacts in games then they wouldn't be fit for purpose.

It would be called a Gigabyte GTX480 SOC. I bought a card from here that does not work as advertised, got charged for sending it back, still don't work so there is no way in hell i'd buy a grade B refurbished graphics card from OCUK

That dont sound like Ocuk customer service.

i think they are officially refurbished by factories, so it should have been strictly tested before they come out of the factory. can't wait to have my third GTX580
