No way NVidia will be 'bumped'

NVidia have a very strong consumer base and access to plenty of dosh, they'll be fine

(not that it wouldnt be nice to force them to compete a bit )

Yeah not likely to go bump... they own more than 60% of the gaming market for GPUs...

how long have AMD gone without making a profit since Intel's performance dominance and dodgy business practices? It would take more than one bad generation of cards to kill off nvidia

Even if ATi cards are good, having a monopoly on graphics cards is never good for the consumer.

What goes around comes around.
NV have had their moments and now it's ATi's turn.
Same case scenario with AMD and intel.

They just have to bite the bullet, do what they are good at with whatever resources they have available to them.

They definitely should stop overcharging and cut down on the rebranding.

The thing of it is, Nvidia don't make their own products, TSMC don't really leak out product specs and the guys who'd leak that info won't be privy to the internal specs on that stuff, but rumours of when they'll be pushing an order through for companies most people at the plant will know. Knowing that the silicon needs a respin, has generally been accurate info when its been leaked over the past 5 years. Nvidia are late, we knew when the last respin was and its very easy to guesstimate a release date based on when a chip tapes out or needs a respin.

Considering the 4770 had such issues with 40nm, was it really any surprise that a chip what, 5-6 times as big was having monumental issues with heat, leakage and needing several respins.

To be fair, this ISN'T Nvidia's fault, its TSMC who frankly have screwed up every process for 4 years now. However, AMD got screwed on the 2900, saw the problems knew the limitations and changed their strategy to adjust and compensate and they've flourished with a small chip design, which is directly the reason the 5XXX series will beat Nvidia's gt300 to the market by a large amount. Nvidia are dense for not seeing this coming and not switching to a smaller core while they've been messing around with failed shrinks and power problems for 2 years.

I remember an article recently about Globalfoundries and something about them taking over Nvidias frab process. Ill try and hunt it out again.

I can't find where I read it but I'm sure this year 08/09 ATI gained market share on Nvidia, from memory the numbers were ATI up 3% from 31% to 34% and nvidia down from 64% to 61%. Nvidia still has a healthy lead on ATI, so it wouldn't hurt this round if ATI gained a little more market share on Nvidia.

I've had nVidia cards most recently, but I have a feeling that could change this time around.
