NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

And to play what as well? The story driven FPS I grew up on and which drove GPU sales is long since dead and hardly anything comes out that not a rerelease or 3 year old console port. Innovation or risk-taking is dead as nothing makes enough money more bar the obvious COD/FIFA/GTA juggernauts that make ALL the money.

100%. I’ve ticked over 40 and struggle with gaming today.

I grew up on story driven, dare I say, linear games. It’s why I struggle to get into games as the thing is “open word” or battle royale type games.

I’ll occasionally come across something that grabs my interest but it’s rare.

I’ll go and get my pipe, slippers and carry on reading comments here

Personally not that impressed by frame generation where you need an uplift the most i.e. the kind of 30-40 FPS territory you often are at on handhelds, where it works the best is topping up an already good frame rate.
Same tbh. So it is kind of just useless all round then.

Almost everything wants to be the only game you play, and completely monopolise your time (and therefore its revenue). There was nothing wrong with linear if the gameplay and story was good.

But it's not really an issue for this thread I suppose. Is there a miserable old gits thread somewhere?

Seems a good time to skip a generation if you have a decent card that is. Hopefully AMD can provide something more bang for buck.
i'm on 3080 FE....i really wanted to upgrade. 5080 is a waste of money, 5090 too expensive to what it is (compared to 4090)...If AMD pulls out 7900XTX performance from 9070xt i prob jump the nvidia ship

if nvidia launched at 4090ti at $1999 whilst keeping the 4090 at $1599 would that of been acceptable, they should have just used the refresh names!

9m35s nvidia claiming they are nearing the limits of rasterization improvements so no big leaps in future.
if they didnt have RT cores and just went full GTX i bet they would have more improvements. Not sure how that would have paid off though, playing long game with RT

they've built something specific for the AI server market, and spiced it up with lies and bs to sell it as a GPUs....
Which given NVidia is now one of the biggest companies in the world built off the back of Mining and now AI booms rather than gaming and has virtually zero competition I'm not sure we can ever really expect anything else sadly.

I have to give Nvidia credit though, the size of the 5090 compared to the 4090 is impressive. SFF builders are going to love that card.

We need an AI ******** detector to swoop in and use Karl Pilkington's voice to silence Jensen.
