NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

so basically I am better off sitting on my 4090 for the time being then? I was thinking of getting a 5090 but with the problems people are mentioning am not sure now.

I'm still waiting for the 5090, but in the meantime I've been testing the 5080. It's a massive expense going from 4090 to 5090, so the responsible thing to do is stick with the 4090, but... yolo? :p

I am enjoying the new transformer DLSS, which you have with the 4090. Other than performance all you gain with the 5090 is MFG, which so far has been a waste of time.

I've tried MFG in NVIDIA's showcase game, Cyberpunk, over the last few days. I can't understand how people are saying it's good. FG at x2 already had very obvious increase in latency, I can feel it from the first mouse movement. However, I can see that under some circumstances, the extra latency at x2 would be manageable (e.g. with a controller, with a small screen, or in a non-first person game). At x3, the laggy feeling is worse, I couldn't see myself using it at all...

At x4, the latency is out of control. Moving the mouse feels like the PC is broken and about to crash. I don't care what the latency OSD says (50+ms), but it's completely unusable. Have people forgotten what games are supposed to feel like? It feels as if PT is on, native 4k, at 20fps, with 100+ms latency. If you're wondering what MFG is like and you see a youtube video say 'only 7ms more latency for double framerate', it's BS, it feels way worse.

Also, I'm surprised to immediately see artifacts even with x2 (I thought they would have sorted this out for Cyberpunk). Right at the beginning of the game, in V's apartment there are some clothes in a wardrobe. Moving the mouse with FG on causes the space in between the clothes to glitch out. You don't have to go pixel peeping or use high speed camera slow mo to see artifacts, another myth.

I don't spend all this money for artifacts and simulated drunkeness. So I turned off most of the RT (execpt reflections), put DLSS quality with the new model, and have a nice sharp, stable image at a good frame rate.

EDIT: I didn't say much about the new DLSS, other than it seems good. I would to have to do more tests, but there isn't that immediate noticeable drop in resolution and texture quality when turning it on, so that's a good sign.

So I landed an order for a INNO3D GeForce RTX 5090 X3 32GB at a good price (around the price of a 5090FE) but I do not know anything about this card, and I can't really find any information about it at all. I really hope I won't encounter too much coil whine with it. I ran into it by luck, but I wish I was better informed of what I purchased. Does anyone know about this card at all.

OMFG It's really happening .... Been refreshing my order since the morning and it has moved into processing !!!!!!

Anyone else ?

Cards crap mate.... too much noise and coil whine and performs worse than the FE

I'm happy to help you out by taking it off your hands

Its the reference model. So basically the 'standard' 5090. I guess most basic, but Inno3d are a good partner brand IMHO. Random sometimes if you get coil whine anyway. I had x2 Palits 3090s and one had horrible coil whine and the other was the quietest I owned.

Thanks. Yeah, hopefully it won't be too bad then. I felt like going for this 3 slot(?) card should probably help with the airflow better than what a 2 slot 5090FE would have done? I dont know. I just hope I did not buy a card that will annoy me to no end. We'll see.

All the reviews point to the FE running hotter than all the AICs

The mistake I made was not buying the 5080 for £1200 odd on the 30th of Jan
I thought meh it's £200 over MSRP the 5070TI at £750 would be a much better buy :face_palmX3:

So I raged on the 5070 Ti launch

Mind you :fingers_crossed: I get the silly MSI launch edition of the card which is exclusive to purple shirts

The problem for me is, if the 60 series comes out sooner rather than later and the node shrink means we actually get GOOD cards - paying all that money for a 5080 you only keep for a year or two is a real kick in the teeth. You are going to want a 60 series card.

We thought this for the original 4080 card...

Well after being unlucky enough to have a Gaming TRio affected by the ROPS issue and having it in writing from MSI that they would replace the card they have now gone back on it and said i will have to get a full refund from the original shop as they have no cards for RMA replacments

Do not think i will be using MSI again and now back to the notifications for new stock

I’d think we wouldn’t see the 60 series until 2027 or tail end of 2026. A couple of years is a long time to hold off…

You’ll see a rehash of the 50 series in around year I’d imagine

Life is short. Options are limited. I need 60fps minimum and I need it now.
