NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

people dont even realize the knock on effect this will have on new games supposed to be coming out next year too ! a lot of titles will probably get pushed back a year now. xbox and playstations put back 1-2 years now. older consoles wont be able to play the new titles coming so with stupid pc component prices and no new consoles how can you play the new higher requirement games ? you cant. so delays for sure.
1-2 years is about the amount of time games, these days, should be in production extra before launch to be in a proper "golden" state. Nothing lost, will just forced studios to optimize more.

Based on a 185mil Steam install base that apparently had towards the end of 2024 and based on Steam Survey from December, on nVIDIA alone, with 4070ti and upwards, there were more than 33 million players. Add a few millions of AMD users with powerful enough cards, perhaps even lower it into 4070 and 4060 16GB territory and you should have a sufficiently large install base.

These numbers were extracted with ChatGPT, so if they are wrong, blame it on that! :P

a lot of the consoles are getting dropped for newer games. also the requirements for even low is going to be like 3070 rtx at 1080. for many big games on new engines. steam had a 14 percent player base playing games from 2025. people just arent bothering with new games cause they either poorly developed or just above their pc requirements so stick to their fav older normal games. which run fine. add in the extra cost of new consoles which are delayed for 1 to 2 years now and extra pc costs new big budget games with high spec are going to struggle and will get put back.

4070ti is above that rtx 3070.

I seriously doubt there would have been a lot of games going strictly for PS6, Next Xbox and PCs. Cross gen will be a thing once more.

14% of 185mil is almost 26 milion people. Now take into consideration that this year Steam could have grown to 190 mil + and that 14% would be even more. moreover, you could have steam and OTHER launcher, playing games on those, so would not register into that 14% from Steam.

have you actually looked at what most users use on steam on pc they still mostly on 1080 with cards well under the new higher requirements coming. have a look https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

If nVidia don’t announce the 5080 Super at CES then I’m going to sulk, get drunk and probably buy the 5090 after all. That’ll show ‘em.

I’m £1800 poorer. 100% they’ll announce the 5080 Super now.
You win this round, Jenson.

Seems the FE 5090 in the u.s. is jumping up in price, seen a tweet showing it listed at an etailer for $3695

That's not really much effort into research. :)
Guys, let's take this review as an example: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-geforce-rtx-5070-solid/33.html

I've looked ar RT results for Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077, since it seems to be heavier and included cards that can do at 1080p at least 50fps (since with DLSS you'll go beyond 60fps, not to mention FG).
Depending on the situation, you could probably include other cards... I've not added 3070, 3070ti and other 8GB cards or Laptop cards. I did add 5060Ti, since it doesn't say which variant it is, you can consider it as filling in for other cards no caught in the analysis.

So is basically nVIDIA only, from 3080 up, 4070 and up, 5060ti and up. Total, around 25.57% out of around 185mil users gives you about 47.3 million, not including laptops that have decent enough cards, not including AMD at all - although it should have a few millions themselves as well, so let's say around 50 million users at least.

In how much time you recon those numbers will be achieved with the next gen consoles? So far PS5, all of them, are at around 84.2mil units. Apparently xbox sits only around 33-34mil units, lol (these are by Google's AI search, not gonna bother look for it manually).

At the end of the day the numbers are even bigger than I've said before, if you add all the cards I've not included probably double :)).

So the install base IS there, all we need are some proper games.

you missing out actual player figures of new games so use 2025 for eg is 14 percent of steam total player base are playing games from 2025. then factor in of those 14 percent who has a 3070 rtx or above percentage wise total numbers. totally different to your figures infacto no where near. :D

Firstly, that's irrelevant since the important thing is the potential install base. More than anything, I'd say that says everything about the quality of games themselves, staying in production longer is actually good. Not the least, Steam isn't the only player in town...

Secondly, that's still around 26 million people playing newer games on Steam alone. If a studio wants to launch an exclusive at the same time with a new xonsole , no way he'll have 26 million units as install base.

Ergo, make good games first and foremost and don't forget to actually finish them before they hit the market! Something the studios don't do anymore! ;)

did anyone who ordered from the FE drops yesterday get any order updates or is it still processing

it isnt irrelevant lol. you cant say this that numbers if thats wrong in the first place ! so its 14 percent of the actual player base on steam then whatever that number is divided by the percentage of those with the 3070 rtx or above. which is no where near 26 million. even if it was 26 million across all games on steam thats not that much. but either way its going to be interesting to see how 2026 plays out.
