I am trying to enabling fixed aspect ration scaling on my GeForce 8800 GTX. Im sure this used to work before. But when I select the "Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ration" option it doesn't seem to make any difference meaning older games are stretched.

Currently using the 175.16 drivers. Is this feature broken?

Hmmm, maybe it does work.

When I changed the resolution to 1280x1024 the aspect ratio was kept (had black borders)

So why doesn't it work for games? Startcraft is always stretched to fill the screen, even when the desktop is set to a 4:3 res and the aspect ratio set correctly by the drivers.

Nvidia seem to be doing quite a good job of borking various features in their drivers...

Anyone got any tips for driver revisions that work well. I did try that fix with the latest drivers and it didn't seem to help. Made things worth with Starcraft, I had black lines flashing across the screen. And it had no effect on Wing Commander (old I know)

Yeah I did reboot twice. Ill try those drivers, hopefully I don't loose any performance. Doubt I will as I have not noticed much gain with newer drivers.

Thanks

Finally found a usable work around! For future reference;

Someone suggested I try Riva Tuner, which I did.

I used it to set the resolution to 640*480 at 75Hz rather than 60, this seemed to do the trick. I immediately got the correct aspect ratio and Startcraft worked perfectly. Even better I can create a launcher that means I can change the res simply by selecting it from the Riva Tuner icon in the system tray. I set a second launcher for my deault res of 1680*1050 and can swtich between them easily.

:D
