Wasn't quite sure where to put this...

I am looking for a good game recording software. I know NVIDIA has shadowplay which looks very good but I have an AMD card and would like to record my game footage.

What is the best shadowplay alternative?

Dxtory, bandicam and MSI Afterburner are the more common alternatives. (Also FRAPs but these days it doesn't seem to fair as well as the competition when it comes to low impact recording of live gameplay).

I like MSI's AB as it has the ability to sacrifice capture quality instead of impacting on the gameplay experience where possible while generally still managing reasonable quality video. Some of the others though have the ability to use the AMD GPU to accelerate the compression IIRC.

RadeonPro is coming soon which offers a free version of Nvidia shadowplay with a small performance hit. Until that comes though you can use Mirillis Action (thats what i use currently) and it records using the same H264 codec that Shadowplay uses. It comes with a free trial for one month and gives you almost complete full usage. The only problem is the recorded videos have a watermark on them. Failing that you can always use DXTORY, plenty of guides on youtube. The performance hit is larger though with Dxtory.

Ay lol that's because of the great Mantle isn't so great for recording :p

But for me dxtory wins hands down feature rich and way above anything out there.

Dxtory is the best for quality without doubt. Urinates over Shadowplay and all the others but the performance hit is also the biggest, especially at 1440P. Action is really good in this regard, the performance hit is small and quality is very good. (but not excellent unless you record in AVI) The only thing with action is, its not free.

With dxtory you ever tired different codes? I used to record and didn't notice any performance issue. Forget the names of some them, think one was lag something.

I do speak with couple YouTube guys and they all use dxtory over Shadow play.

Mainly because with dxtory you can have multiple audio device's get recorded, and like mic, game and TS all on there own audio stream.
Unlike Shadow play it's all mixed together.

Yeah followed the guide to get the lowest performance hit, but its still fairly noticeable. Using the Lagarith lossless codec and multi threaded rendering. Using Action and the AMD H264 MP4 codec the performance hit is small, much less than dxtory.

Lagerith lossless codec mate, best one to use for DXtory :)
Having multiple audio sources is also a plus, puts it above all the rest imo.

Nothing good old mirillis action does not do ladies. Who needs lagarith when we've got MP4 AMD. File sizes in lagarith are huge compared to MP4 as well.

I should do a comparison using the sleeping dogs bench. Record both and then compare the performance hit. A new form of benchmarking. :p

Yes you should i think we all want to find and use something that has the least performance hit while giving us good quailty

It's also the recording of audio mate. When playing with friends in say TS and you record it will also record there voice in the game audio.
But with dxtory you can change this so you can have what audio you want etc.
But I would agree with you based on just video recording alone I think I would also pick mirillis

As far as i know that can all be done with Action. I know when ive done recording before ive recorded my voice and the voice of others in ts depending on the options set.

Nope
You only have two options your normal audio output and your mic.
Friends voices will still get recorded in with game.

On dxtory you can add up to 8 different devices.

So you can have say use on board for ts and use sound card for game etc this will keep the audio on different channels.
It's only dxtory that can do this and only reason it's so popular with youtube.
