Nvidia Shield (2016) V Firetvstick 4k (2021)

Which of these would you say is the best for streaming?

I picked up the Firestick for half price on BF. I’ve used my shield happily since I got it, but it is 5 years old now. Has the Firestick overtaken it in terms of power, features (4K, HDR10+ and streaming ability), or does the Shield still hold the advantage?

I’m not interested in games or anything, but I do have a HDD attached to the shield for all my classic sitcoms. I’d be somewhat loathed to lose that.

What app do you use to watch those shows?

If they mean a lot then stick with the Shield.

Otherwise I’d say that the Firestick is a better device purely for the reason it has all the streaming apps available for it whereas the Shield lacks in that department (All 4 and Now TV not native).

The shield is still much more powerful, and able to stream HD audio and atmos on kodi

As far as i remember, i couldn't do this with the amazon 4k stick

Sorry to jump in but I'm ignorant on these devices and their uses.

What benefit would it be say to myself to get a Nvidia shield over using the apps built in to my LG or PS5?

do they offer a better quality etc?

Genuinely interested, if I'm missing out I'd take a look into a shield etc

Depending on your requirements I find the Fire TV Cube to be very fast and reliable. Even better is when it is on offer and has a trade in option on old Fire TV tech. I use the apps via this rather than the TV ones and have no issues, currently routed through my Denon AVR.

It does depend on individual need, but for me its the freedom to choose the apps and not rely on just the ones built in the device ecosystem... ie you can't install Kodi or Retoarch on PS5 etc
