Nvidia surround sync polarity

Hi guys, I've got a slight problem with nvidia surround. I'm aiming for 5760x1080.

I had this working for around a week, but I've since re installed Windows 7, and I can no longer get it to work :(

With a fresh windows install, upon enabling surround it changes the resolution to 5040x1050, it won't let me add a custom resolution, "test failed". I assume 5040x1050 is the next best resolution in which the sync polarities match (+/-)

Gigabyte GTX 670
1 x Benq 2420HDBL - DVI
1 x Benq 2420HD - DVI
1 x Benq 2420HD - HDMI port--> DVI adapter

I haven't switched the cables since it worked, so it's not to do with that.

The monitors are pretty much identical, but it would seem the sync polarity is slightly different.

In Nvidia control panel I can add custom resolutions, which sets the sync polarities the same.

Standard:
1 x Benq 2420HDBL --> +/+
1 x Benq 2420HD --> +/-

I add a customer resolution to the control panel for the HDBL, it tests fine. But when trying to enable surround the screens flashes and then the box unticks itself. No errors, nothing in the event log.

Using a program (I've forgotten which) to read the EDID info the HDBL can support both types of polarities.

I've tried using moninfo.exe to create a custom driver but it just crashes when I launch the program (red screen). It seems it's happened to a few other people too. So that's out the window.

I've also tried replacing the windows Benq HDBL driver with the normal HD driver, but still have the same problem.

Any ideas? Other than purchasing another 2420HD ?

Does that mean that each monitor works at 1920x1080 before trying to enable surround mode?

Since you reinstalled Windows, have you by any chance installed a different driver version than you were using previously?

Yes, they all work at 1920x1080 before attempting to enable surround.

Nope, the same latest driver for Nvidia 306.23

I would uninstall the nvidia drivers reboot and reinstall. If it was working before the clean windows install, you know it is a user error. Also make sure you have enabled all displays and they are bezel corrected how you want (I personally didn't bother with correction).

I've reinstalled the drivers several million times.

All the displays are enabled in extended desktop mode at 1080p before attempting surround. Bezel correction comes after the initial check box for surround (which fails).

I have a possible plan.

I've used Phoenix 1.3 EDID designer to extract my HDBL driver, I've edited it to remove the +/+ at 1080p, so it will default to +/-. This is now saved as a .dat file, which I've uploaded to my skydrive:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=AE29906F64096041!5299&authkey=!ACN-jOJhBxq0x3Y

Now I need to ask someone a favor :)

Could someone please download and install
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

Then create a .inf from my .dat file? I would be very very grateful!
(Open moninfo. File->Open...your newly created EDID.dat File-> Create INF)

I had a nightmare with sync polarity a while back... I was trying to match two Hazro 30" screens with an HP 30"-er.

I tried alsorts, editing EDID files, using various third party software hacks etc, and had no success.

Sorry I can't be of more help, other than to say that sync polarity with Nvidia surround can be a real pain!

I have created the EBID.inf file you wanted and will email you it via trust. If I have missed something, let me know.

I've cracked it!

Thank you for the help though, sorry I wasted your time.

I remembered I had a works laptop buried in the loft, so I've been messing with that.

I created the .inf from the .dat of the HD (not HDBL). I didn't change any settings in the .dat, it was just the standard setup of the HD monitor (pulled from the registry). Uninstalled all monitor drivers (via device manager), rebooted, uninstalled nvidia drivers, rebooted. Installed nvidia drivers, rebooted, don't open the control panel.

Straight to device manager, installed the new .inf for all 3 monitors (recognised as "BenQ G2420HD (BNQ7840 EDID Override)"). Rebooted. Opened nvidia control panel. Ticket the surround checkbox, apply.

5760x1080 goodness!

Strangely I didn't need to do anything with the custom .inf drivers last time.

I think the problem was something to do with nvidia recognising that the monitor was still a HDBL. I'm not sure how it did, but in my previous attempts it's always been listed as a HDBL in the control panel.

Now with the recreated .inf (not actually modified) all 3 are listed as a "BenQ G2420HD (BNQ7840 EDID Override)")

Hopefully if anyone stumbles across the same problem they'll find it useful :)

Thanks again
