Hey guys,

Im looking at getting a new graphics card in the near future (hopefully before xmas if not just after) and im curious as to what the hell the Nvidia titans are all about.

They are massively priced in comparison to other cards but I have no idea what the specs are all about!

Im also interested in how they fare against the new maxwell tech cards that nvidia have just released. Surely this super tech makes the titans a little dated?

I wouldn't go for a Titan with the release of Maxwell. Go for 970 in SLi or a single 980.

In SLI? Are you kidding!

I dont have that kind of money!

Im currently running 2 GTX 580's in SLI (I know, lol).

Unfortunately I have them on the same loop as my CPU and as such I havn't been able to overclock anything. They still everything ive tried at high settings but of course theres a big lack of support for SLI in gaming these days it seems.

How do the 970's fare with heat generation in comparison to the 580's would you say?

I recently bought Fifa 15 and of course there is no SLI support so only 1 card runs the game and even though it does a fine job it does get to 50 degrees which is way more than I want it to. Also it heats up the room massively after an hour or so of gameplay (seriously its like a sauna in here!).

I have a triple and single rad for the loop but ive been thinking perhaps I need to add another rad to the loop which would mean I probably need to upgrade the Corsair 800D to a 900D which would then mean I probably need to upgrade my desk to fit the thing on (good job im moving house I guess).

Oooh and they are a more eco option! That pleases the treehugger in me.

Well thats all pretty good.

The next step then is to ask is it really worth getting 2 for SLI?

Its not often I find games supporting my 2 580's as it is.

Well if you can't afford SLI 970s, you can't afford a Titan, so is there any point to the thread?

I was more curious tbh. They have a huge price tag and with the new maxwell cards it seemed a little odd to have them priced as they are, especially the titan Z when the newer tech may well be better.

Of course I will be saving for whatever I pick but im just getting an idea of what I need to save up in order to get there.

As I said im moving house atm so money is a bit low especially after just paying £300 out in vetinerinary bills yesterday!

CPU
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68X-UD7-B3 (Socket 1155)
Graphics
BenQ XL2410T (1920x1080@60Hz)
1535MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
1535MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
ForceWare version: 344.11
SLI Enabled

I probably need to upgrade more than just the graphics :p

Oh and for the games I play im currently mostly on Company of Heroes 2, Wildstar, Rome 2 TW and Fifa 15. Couple of other games but nothing any more demanding than those listed.

The only game ive noticed a performance drop is Fifa 15 which stutters every time I or the other team take a shot at goal which may actually be the game rather than my machine (probably is my machine though).

Thanks for the replies guys.

Presumably looking at the stats provided earlier it wouldn't be an issue to add one to my watercooling setup either. Perhaps I can save up for the OCUK watercooled version. The first and last time I put a block on my 580's was an absolute nightmare. A job I thought that would take a short amount of time kept me going for 2 hours... I wish they at least came with pre-cut thermal pads! (thats what took so long!)

Just buy an air cooled version and leave your CPU water cooled then you will be able to overclock your CPU and have great performance from both CPU and GPU.

Your probably right but running a dual bay reservoir and a combo of a triple and single rad is a little overkill for a CPU no? lol

Ill probably be better getting it air cooled and then if I really want to at a later date buy the block I guess...

Thanks a lot guys for the feedback. I appreciate this thread may have been a little irritating and possibly misleading. Hugely appreciated you hung on in with me and gave all the feedback :)

Well according to yourself its been rather a lot of overkill for however long you've had your rig setup like it is anyway, so you may as well get some use out of it now. :)

This is true.

I was thinking at some point to upgrading to a larger case (Corsair 900D) and throwing a few more radiators at it but that will come in the future. For now I will settle on a single 970 GTX!

Could you recommend which to get? There are many to choose from and im unsure which is likely to be the 'best'.

Also have you or anyone else reading the thread dealt with the hitachi finance before? I do need to get a new CPU block and so I could probably take that out of its 0% interest.

cheers :)
