Ok so i got my 5870 back and a new heatsink , fitted it all and loaded it up everything is great temps at like 40 for my Q6600 at 3.0

I uninstall all nvidia drivers (add/remove) and then restart , i double click the .exe for the cc driver package 9.11 taken straight from amd site and half way through installing my computer just restarts and it loads back up with no drivers installed. I then try downloading and executing driver sweeper but when i double click that .exe it ses it 'failed to initialize properly' . Also for no apparent reason my CD Drive has an exclamation mark under system and isnt being detected , i have checked the HDD cable and its all plugged in correctly and the power is running to the CD drive as i can eject it.

I have also tried a system restore to no avail and i cant format since my cd drive is randomly not working . Really have no clue wtf is going on :/ .

Have you tried dropping everything back to stock and reseting the CMOS - just incase, 'coincidently', your clock is playing silly buggers?

What OS are you running - i experienced a similar problem using XP due to forgetting to update critical updates and optional updates before installing the ATi driver package (it requires soem of the critical and optional updates to unpack successfully.) However, this was a fresh install, but the symptoms were the same. (ignore this if your using win 7)

Have you tried running driver sweeper in safe mode?

Im on XP SP2 , i did format like 3 days ago u see so perhaps the updates are screwing things up , i have already reset the CMOS and clocks are back to normal.

Ok ill try sweeper in safe mode , if that doesnt work ill go with the updates.

any idea about the CD drive ?

There's a registry fix for your cd rom issue, I've come across it a few times out onsite.
See here for details. Might be worth a post in the graphics card section for your ATi issue.

Coupe69 hopefully has the CD drive covered - as it sounds promising.

As for your Ati problem - it does spound like you have a similar problem to that of mine a few months ago. Make sure all critical updates are installed plus the additional 'optional updates' that are required for CCC (I forget the name).

Good luck

yeh i found that regedit fix but i have no upper or lower filters in that reg file :(

in device manager it ses "the device cannot start" (code 10) , dunno if that helps at all

downloading loads of updates atm so hopefully that will solve the ati problem

.net framework is needed for CCC IIRC

Yep, that's the optional update i couldn't remember the name of - the latest version.

But make sure you have all critical updates installed as well as the above optional update before you attempt another install (remembering to restart the computer before beginning the ATi install).

The drivers need the service packs/critical updates and the CCC requires the optional updates (.net Framework)

Good luck.

ok thanks a lot the graphics problem is fixed , still have no clue about the cd drive but ill only ever need to use it if a reformat so im not to fussed about that atm
