This is a 55nm shrink of the 9800GTX

The GeForce 9800 GTX+ takes the highly efficient G92-based GeForce 9800 GTX and offers unbeatable value for value conscious gamers.

Key product points:
• GeForce 9800 GTX+ is the best single card price/performance at $229; the original GeForce 9800 GTX will transition to $199
• Processor clock of 1836MHz and graphics clock of 738MHz
• GeForce PhysX support! World’s only physics API for both the CPU and the GPU!
• Support for CUDA-based applications, including Folding@Home and Badaboom video transcoding applications.
• Support for 2-way and 3-way SLI

Seems like the driver release for more performance has something to do with this. Really like the stock shader clock.

Seems like they just speedbinned a ton of them and are trying to clear stock?
And as a way to try to beat the 4850 in some tests, try to spoil the launch. They're gonna have to do very good to beat the 4870 in a fair price range i believe.

But the positive effect of this might be that AMD will lower the prices of the 4800 series a bit, just so they are always the price/performance choice.

Processor clock of 1836MHz

1836MHz

What?

9800GTX is an 8800GTX(S?) yes?
and they run between 575 and 700 or so.

I say again.
What?

nearly 3 times the speed of my 8800GTX, I'm having that.
Sod the GTX280.

(or maybe it's a press release from a chimpanzee)

1836Mhz is the Shader clock.

738Mhz is the GPU clock.

Wonder if they'll have higher clocking potential than the current 9800GTX...

Yep - just clearing old stock. Also shows the transition to 55nm is looking good after the first tape out - now they are looking to scrub the line of 65nm GPUs.

And this is different to other industries? Cars have a much longer potential lifespan than graphics cards, and cost considerably more, yet the car companies offer frequent face lifts, and model upgrades.

And how about the supermarkets.. Oh my.. I bought a loaf of bread yesterday, and today its buy one get one free. Should I demand a free loaf because the offer wasnt on yesterday.

NV's biggest error was calling it a 9800GTX, we all know it should have been the 8900GTX. Its not a bad performer, its really just a side step from the 8800GTX. But slightly more power efficient. If the new driver can improve its AA performance at 1920x1200, then even the current GTX will be quite a nice card.

I'll be watching for this GTX+, as if its true, it would appear to be a much better value card than the reduculously overpriced GTX260/280's.

Christ how many more cards they going to bring out there will come a point where the confusion factor for most buyer's is going to put them off nvidia. They should be reducing the number of cards making it easier to sell the main ones.

Worst analogy ever. I don't consume my graphics card and require a new one on a daily basis.

Your car analogy is also flawed, but I am feeling lazy this morning so cba.

If the price is right, they will sell, and that's a good thing - but we do need to get rid of some of the bottlenecks soon, memory bandwidth, bus width etc :)

Hopefully these will launch at about £110

the graphics card that are available for the money are very good dont know why so many moan.not including the top end stuff

Oooo now 55nm is intresting as that should mean cooler running, lower power, and higher clocking...

Indeed. In guessing thats why it is higher clocked.

Nvidia has **** themselves at the sight of what the 4850 is going to do to their 9800 GTX and 8800 GT / GTS cards so they have hurried up 55nm production and are going to release this thing to counter act the 4850 and also dropping prices at the same time to make them look like better buys.

If I was AMD when this happens I would just say that we actively encourage more overclocking of their cards, and they would do that by putting the max clocks you can get in CCC higher and by adding the ability to overclock the cards shader in it aswell. That will rain on the parade then. :D

Yeah the OP should update it's a 55nm shrink.

These could well hit 800mhz+ core. Good card for the money... should give the 4870 competition. Obviously NV are releasing this card to do just that.
