Industry sources told TG Daily that while the 8000 series is being phased out, all 55 nm 9000-series GPUs will carry a G100-series name. By the end of 2008, Nvidia will be offering today’s 9000 series as G100, GT120, GT130, GT140 and GT150 models.

Iv'e thought it strikingly odd that the 9800 GTX+ have less performance than an 8800GTX Wierd wierd naming structure! To be fair to Nvidia, it had reached the end of the logical naming structure...else they would have had to go into 5 digit numbers!

This is hardly surprising news - nearly all the hardware suppliers (GPUs, CPUs, peripherals, etc) change their naming scheme every so often.

Yeah untill they run into the same barrier Nvidia did at 10,000... But then it'l be alright to change the names, won't it Loadsa?

like nvidia maxpower 1, then after the 1 have mx = value, nothing = normal, gts = boosted, ultra = top end.

Who knows, but this is about the chip names not the card names isnt it, they will still be called 9800's, just the chips they will be on are going to be called G100's instead of G92's.

As the article says, todays 9 series are now known as G100's etc.., so no one has 9600 GT's, 9800 GTX's etc... on the G92's anymore, they are now running G100 chips.
