nVidia to 'simplify' product range

I first saw recent reviews for a "9800" and wondered why they were digging out the old ATI Radeons?!

If that's enough to confuse me, the rest is too much :p
 
I think it always starts off sensible (like 8800GTS, 8800GTX), but then it starts to get sillly with refreshes and new additions to the series. This wasn't that big a problem with the 7 series but it became silly with the 8 series.

yeah exactly, GTS and GTX. followed by Ultra / GT / GTO / GS and so on

It is a little weird they did the whole "9800 pro" and now are just about in the process of finishing off the 4xxx series.

It will be interested when they get back the 9 series, or even the 7 or 8 series.

Not that I really care much - either company can call them as they like as long as they are good cards.

Or maybe change from the "GeForce" name to something else?

Would give them a change to have a go with a completely new arcitecture kinda like when Intel changed their flagship processors from "Pentium" to "Core2" ....that proved to be very poplular.

However, I've always quite liked GeForce as a name though :)
 
To be honest, this has all arised soley because of the G92 core refreshing the 8800 range. Up untill then Id say that the nVidia series have been fairly good, the numbers have been clear indicators of whats better, the only thing you need to research into the the GTO, GT, GTS, GTX, GS and so forth ending to the card names. It was a mistake baging the G92 cores at 8800 and not 8900, and then a mistake to launch the 9 series on what is a very small leap over the refreshed G92 8 series.
