Nvidia unveils Project Shield gaming console

Looks abit...

Soon we'll be attaching our graphics cards to these little babies and playing bf3 at 200fps!

^ Your GPU Should be able to do more than 200fps @720p :)

But, what if we output these to a TV? PC Gaming in a livingroom with a controller on 40"+ TV's with great graphics that wont cost you a bomb as you already own the Hardware to Render it.

Its basically a wireless controller/console with a link to your PC for gaming!

Haha my gpu is pretty sweet with the added bonus of zero noise and low heat.

Could these even render that much on a big tv? I mean you could but probably not on any high settings that are available so no eye candy :(.

But from what i read, it seems you can connect these to your gpu's wirelessly and use that to render to the bigger tv's... which to me sounds abit pointless? Why not just connect your pc to the tv in the first place and go buy yourself a controller lol.

I meant that bit!

It means you can leave your PC in your room, watch movies/play games in the living room, then go back to your room again without lugging your PC around, then the access to facebook and such is just a bonus.

It would be like streaming your PC screen onto a TV via a laptop. Yes you could skip the laptop and plug the Pc into the TV, but that requires moving something that isnt portable really...

I see your point, it would just be good for Parties possibly, without getting your PC trashed!

the thought of being able to take this thing and play bf3 on the bog does not excite me, the thunderbox is the only place in the whole house that does not have one single piece of computer equipment in it. i need this haven, this sanctuary, to ponder, to invent, to escape lifes torments and distractions, Nvidia, by releasing this are just enabling me, its cruel and unfair.

I was looking at this earlier. I believe it has a 4k screen? If so thats amazing, 4k is is better than normal HD.

Problem is I dont think the games that will be available will be that good.

It has a 720p display on the handheld, but they demoed it streaming to a 4K TV

Well, this was unexpecting. I was expecting news on Tegra 4, but not a hand held device from Nvidia themselves :p.

I'm not sure what I think about it, but 720p 5" sounds very nice, got the Wii U recently and the screen on the gamepad is quite a let down. The fact it also runs Android as well means it's not just limited to gaming, seeing as it can access the entire Android market.

I'm assuming the PC streaming thing is probably based off Splashtop, I saw them using it to show off the Asus Transformer with the Tegra 3, and it can stream gaming pretty well with very low latency and high quality. Splashtop works very well from my experience, so having a device that can access both Android and PC games makes this device pretty tempting... although honestly, I feel I have no use for it :p.

It will all come down to price, if its around £100 then it will sell like crazy, but of course this Nvidia who as we well know are not known for their nice cheap products, So it will probably be £250-300 and then it will be just another natty overpriced android tabletesque gaming device.

Sorry but totally useless.
Like anyone is going to wait for this thing to power on and then go to the throne room to take a dump while playing BF3 or something on a joy-pad of all things with a tiny screen attached. I can see SOME use if you are playing a platform game or something that excels at being played on a joy-pad but why on earth would you need to keep playing while you do your business or whatever your still going to need to put it down to wipe and then you have your clean controller thing on your bathroom floor.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

For a novelty thing if its under £80, sure...fun for alittle while, but essentially useless.

Its going to come down to price. But I don't see it been cheap enough to tempt many plus I'm guessing nvidia only GPU PC compatibility will restrict too many people from the outset.

If it is based off Splashtop, then any game will be compatible. But you will need an Nvidia GPU in the PC to run it in full screen, overwise the games will have to be played in Windowed mode.

The only saving grace from the presentation was that Steam and PC games were mentioned.
Let's wait and see but I'm sceptical if this device would ever gain any traction.
