Nvidia will fix 8800 by mid-September

i havent experienced anything like this either, is it a issue with any specific games that trigger it?
Is it a hardware error that is introduced later on in the production process because I haven't experienced this with my 8800GTS bought in januari

mmm... I'm a bit worried now.

Getting my 8800gts 320 in a few weeks, if i wasnt getting it for £100 then i would get the 640mb version.

I can't believe its anything else orther than hardware as some get the problem as some don't and i can't believe its driver related as surely we would have found this out by now.

Unless its a certain manufacturer with this fault only.

if we could get togeather Manufacturer name, driver version and who is / isnt get the problem to try and narrow this down a bit.

I think this is being blown out of proportion a little bit, I have a 640 MB GTS and know multiple people with the 320 MB version who have never experienced a problem like this.

With so few people reporting this issue it hardly qualifies as some kind of widespread epidemic like the Inquirer are making it out to be.

Another horrible attempt at journalism from the Inquirer, as usual.

I wouldnt let it put you off mate.

They are great cards. What ive experienced is very slight and thats down to the hours I put into BF2142. Like most people say, they havent had the problem or don't even notice it.

Had a 8800GTS since november and I think may have noticed this, when switching back and forth between Windows and game sometimes game runs fairly sluggish, switch back to Windows and then go back in to game and it's full speed again.

Hardly a massive bug but good to see they are working on it.

my 8800 does this on all games after like 10 mins, its worse on games where there are zones or something..where the texture memory fills up, you change zones, the card doesnt clear the memory, so the new zone runs like a slideshow, alt+tabbing clears it and its fine for the rest of that zone usualy

Happened with me in oblivion with my old 8800gts 320, albeit with 8xAA running along with it lol! :)

Spot On!. S.T.A.L.K.E.R for example was a nightmare for me as was Oblivion. :( , was glad to have rid of it.

Never experianced it myself, Oblivion runs fine for me, as do all my games, i do however have the Stalker prob, where by when you enter a new zone it doesn't clear the memory from the previous one, but a quick Vid_restart in the console fixes that, then i can play through the whole zone without prob, but that also affects ATi cards.

You've got it lucky, STALKER flat out refuses to work for me. Blue screens my machine after any short duration of play. Sucks. :(

It's the only game I have problems with and the only game I currently have a craving to play.

I blame Vista. :(

Dosn't affect me  , only affected my GTS.

Is your 8800gts a 320mb or 640mb ??

Am sure i used to see this problem even with my old 7800gtx 256mb cards...

This was gaming at 1920x1200 with 7800gtx 256mb...it could have been a case of 256mb was not really enough for such a high res...

640 so it might be much worse for 320 owners.
This is the case, my 8800GTS 320MB on XP and Vista has the exact same issue in STALKER, the game just crawls at under 10fps with anything but statis lighting enabled at any res with any number of quality settings.

I wish I just got a different card...

Glad I decided to have a wander round the forums. Just bought a Leadtek 8800 GTX today, only tried one game so far, colin mcrae dirt. Yep I get slowdown after one race. Ugh great waste of money....

Well I don't get slowdown on Vista @ 1440x900 with 4xAA and 16xAF with everything at Ultra.

Maybe you're facing a bottleneck?
