Hi all, I have never had an Nvidia card and am looking for something a little better than my VTX3D 7770 1gb 1ghz edtn card. I have recently started F@H and have heard Nvid cards are better for this as they can use the Cuda accelleration or something? However that is not the main reason, just feel like having a new one and was wondering what the options were? I also use Lightroom and Photoshop a lot so any cards that offer a bit of support to those would be a bonus. Finally i play Dirt and the 7770 works fine for that, would i get any more from a newer / different card?

The other thing is that i am running an Intel CPU sand believe that nvid goes with intel whereas ATI goes with AMD.

I don't want to spend a fortune (Sub£100) 2nd hand valuations are fine too as my current card only cost me £20!

If you're interested in F@H check out the distributed computing subforum (near the bottom of the page). The best performance (and perf. per watt) varies all the time so best to check in with those guys.

The best card for the job varies quite a bit depending on single/double precision, and whether using explicit/implicit solver. (I don't know which Folding uses in general!)

For SP, the 980, 980 Ti, and Fury X are pretty matched.

For DP the Nvidia cards are crippled and AMD are the way to go (or 780 Ti for some reason).

Edit: sorry just saw <£100... for that money any card you buy will be slow :p
 
I'm aware i'm not going to get a Blazing fast card but currently my 7770 is working just fine, It will run Dirt 3 on Ultra settings and Dirt Rally on high averaging around 48-60fps.
Folding wise i seem to be getting estimated 18770 points per work unit.
