When I see the min fps figures at very high resolutions for Crysis, Farcry 2, world at war etc and the average fps then you see that the Nv architectire appears to be more consistant.

The ATi architecture seems to be more prone to issues of some nature. Any one agree?

The lowest resolution is the 16:10 1680x1050 (22") so it is quite high end gaming.

They all use the same memory and interface and hence aint all this down to the cores?

That page you linked shows same min fps for ATI cards as the 285...

Also, they don't use the same memory, nvidia uses GDDR3 and ATI GDDR5.

Well the minimum FPS figures there for Far Cry 2 and Stalker are clearly higher on the 5850. In WiC and L4D it's basically a draw, or the 5850 is a little faster. It's only in Crysis Warhead that the 5850 really loses out on minimum framerates, and then that's only at 1680x1050. But in that benchmark the 5850 loses in average framerates as well, as with PT Boats: Knights of the Sea - if you want to include that - so the problem is the card's performance in general, in those two benchmarks.

Other sites typically show the 5850 significantly beating the 285 in Crysis Warhead, with higher minimums to match.

I think the 5850/70 have benefited a lot from the extra ROP'S and texture units, as far as I have heard and seen the min FPS have been great with the new ati cards

AND in that review the min FPS's of the 5850 and 70 are higher???
