• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Nvidia’s GameWorks program usurps power from developers, end-users, and AMD

same difference, HLSL is part of DirectX the same as direct compute is, for AMD to claim that they can't see what a standard directx language library is doing on their own hardware is nonsense

"I looked hard for smoking guns. I checked multiple driver versions on both AMD and NV hardware to see if I could find evidence that one vendor took a harder hit than the other when performing a given DX11 task. There aren't any."

there is no evidence that the game works libraries are causing a bigger drop in performance on one than the other, all of the game works features can be turned off and when doing so both cards get the same improvement in fps, NV only controls the HLSL for the specific GW features that the game implements

My best understanding, however, is that AMD and NV both typically optimize a title by working with the developer to create best-case HLSL code. With GameWorks, NV controls the HLSL, and the developer either cannot access that code directly or cannot share it with AMD.

Again who is saying this? Who is feeding him that. Source. You can't say something like that without clarification and then continue to yabber on about the ramifications.

There is nothing to suggest that AMD can't amend the libraries other than what we are being told. Why did AMD point tthm towards performance abnormalities when it's much easier to come out and say we can't access the following.

It's whirlwind *** stirring and if you can't see that then don't quit your day job.

The acid test will be if the anti-competition lawyers get involved. If not then there probably isn't a case to answer. Don't underestimate the EU either they love this stuff and have plenty of people and time on their hands ;)

Personally I think the world is moving towards open standards inexorably and this industry will have to bite the bullet eventually. All the better for all enthusiasts...

If you want to be absolutist about it...

Either way, I've found it to be a generally peaceful and pleasant place of late. Hugs all round.

I think this was due to the fact the mods brought it up again that anyone acting up would be getting lengthy suspensions which calmed most people down.

On topic: Does it really surprise anyone that nvidia are doing this, anytime a thread like this comes up it seems to be 90% of posts people bashing and laughing at nvidia and around 10% actually discussing the topic without letting their preferred brand get in the way.

I find this thread very interesting. I can see Matt has been chatting to some people, as he would never know half this stuff. Maybe Thracks is feeding him ;)

I knew those constant tweets would pay off :p

Nope, I've already addressed the point countless times, and Ian is acting like the picture of the monkey above
Indeed as Mantle is not currently compatible with NV cards so it does not hinder Nv performance, the performance NV will be getting will be the same as it was going to be wether Mentle existed or not as it does not run through Mantle in the first place.

Just like no one says or cares that developers and AMD can not optimize GPU Physx or CUDA for AMD cards because in its current form it's not compatible so its flat out irrelevant and trying to do otherwise is a red herring just like using Mentle in defense of GameWorks when they are nothing alike on the API level and neither on the compatiblaity level.

Greg you would be proud...

Just played a round of BF4 with mates and who should get in my LAV? You guessed it, OcuK forum legend and all round nice guy, AMD Roy!!

Even the article he's arguing for states therr is no real proof yet. Matt keeps taking snippets from it as if it's on wikipedia.

It has all gone too far on nothing but accusations. Not one thing that has been posted has been from someone who has access or inside knowledge on GameWorks or whether AMD are unable to access the libs. What would be the point in looking into heavy overuse of tessellation and possibilities if it was as simple as being derived of access. Common sense need be applied at times of lack of confirmed info. Fair to say but some obviously don't agree with that notion.

geeeez, why can't we all just get along, Mantle will be awesome for AMD owners, Nvidia owners shouldn't be getting upset just because Mantle will enable AMD cards to perform more closely to their superior cards, Nvidia has already got mantle performance in the way of raw power and don't need a wind up handle mantle. :D:D

Were you able to keep a straight face while you were typing that up.
