Nvidia's GTX 1070 will be slower than the 1080 and way cheaper

Actually it is just "Nvidia's GTX 1080 will be faster than the 1070 and way more expensive" being put across as a positive thing instead of a negative thing :p

The only thing that nobody was expecting is the huge price gap going between the new 1070 and 1080, even more so than between the 970 and 980.

Here I was thinking it would be slower than a 1080 but more expensive.

The 1070 Founders Edition Deluxe 360 NoScope Fanboy edition.
£2499.99 MSRP.

Huh? There's $220 between the 1070 and 1080, same as the 970/980.

$379/$599, compared to $329.99/$549.99.

(Sorry if your post was sarcastic and it just went entirely over my head!)

Launch price of 1080 is from $699, as only Founder Edition (aka glorified reference card with premium price) is available.

There will still be quite a wait for the 3rd party cards at the "supposed" $599.

Source?
We dont know that yet. Nvidia are saying the reference board AIB cards will also be available at launch.

Lets at least see what happens on the 27th.

Nvidia is really nailing the early adopters. But hey, it is a pretty card. Im really excited to see its massively outperforming TITAN X cards. The 1070 - if it gets a price of say, £350 will be very tempting, but not necessary for just 1080p gaming.

I think the true age of 4k gaming and VR is really about to begin. Ill come back in 2 years when its matured and I dont have to spend £1k to play a tech demo.

Yes, yes and yes.

Very wise indeed.

I am personally very curious to see if the 1070 will be a worthwhile upgrade from a 980, or if I should stick with what I have OR try and get a second-hand 980Ti in a month or so. I am on 21:9 1440. The 1080 is officially off the table now that the price has been revealed to be off its meds and gone full retard.

If the 1070 is £350 and only say 40-50% faster than a 970, I don't think it will sell in the same volumes as the 970 did. That's a big price jump (nearly £100, I paid £260 for my EVGA 970 SC) and I think the 970 sold to many people who would normally have bought a 960, but the 960 wasn't out and the 970 offered such good bang for the buck. Those people have 970s now though (a very capable 1080p card), so the appeal of a £350 1070 won't be as great.

We'll see what the lesser brands sell them for though, once 3rd party cards are out and prices settle.

those prices will not exist in real life, who ever takes the MSRP into consideration is just dellusional, the real price to go with is 699$ and 449$, and ppl will understand that once custom cards will show up around the FE price.
