Nvme question

Morning
Decided to move on to nvme
I Have an msi trident 3 with mz-vlw1280 128gb which is too small for comfort
Few days back there was a sale on sabrent nvme but it is 2280. My understanding is that 1280 are m.2 ssd and 2280 m.2 nvme. Can i use the same slot for 2280? Reasoning behind this is there is a gap on 1280 and none on 2280 and looks like same size connector. Probably not but worth asking someone with more knowledge

PCB on tridents are somewhat like a laptop, sodimm 260pin ram with full size cpu. Not much info on it at all
Googling my current drive (MZVLW128HEGR) seem to suggest that its Gen3 x4 and the one i bought (SB-ROCKET-512) seem to have all the same specs
Was convinced my current one had 2 spacings to suggest its sata, reason i got confused
