Hello good people!

Me and a few mates are thinking of going to NYC for about a week in mid September. We were initially looking at cheapy deals for europe/all inclusive before but now NYC doesn't seem to bad for price.

I've looked up some deals and basically we can get 7 nights in a hostel w/ on suite (2 rooms), plus flights for 4 people for around £2.1k all together.

Does this sound good? We don't really care about the hotel, as long as it's clean, secure and has beds then we are happy as we will be spending the majority of time elsewhere.

Also how much can we expect to be spending on food/drinks for the week? Don't think we will be dining in fancy restaurants every day...

Well flights for 4 people should come to around £900-1000 so having to splash out another £1100-1200 on a hostel seems quite a lot.
Food is very varied in price in NYC, you can dine on a budget if you go to places like dunkin donuts' (they do more than just donuts!) or small eateries. Likewise if you walk in the wrong restaurant you can be paying $100 for a lunch for two.

i didnt find food too much more than over here tbh, just take into account that you will be eating out a lot more rather than eating at home.

Hotels can be found very cheap, maybe think about staying a bit further out and travelling in each day / evening

Can't give you exact figures but I went in March 07, the food in certain places (Planet Hollywood springs to mind) is about $15 for a meal, burger, chips, drink etc but then another place like Dallas BBQ (Their sirloin steak burger is the best I have ever had) was about $8.

Try and stay away from the big chains and its actually pretty good value for money, although be warned, anywhere you go you will probably get about twice as much food in a meal than you would here.

Thanks for the replies guys...Just looked again and we should be able to get flights cheaper...and the hostel as well. Found a hostel for about 550 for 4 people...not too bad.

Travel we will be buying a week travel card or equivilant...

Also what are the clubs and stuff like?

I went for my 21st and I staye in the hotel carter for six nights for £120. The hotel is in the middle of times square. It had a bed and a shower and was secure, semi clean but your not there 99% of the time so doesn't matter. You can still go to some clubs if your not 21 you just won't be able to buy drinks inside. So drink up before.

Pics on tripadvisor on this hotel does not do it any favours!

:( Doh...badly still want to go though, just wondering what activities we can do in the evening!

NYC always has loads of good gigs on... go to some of those. Oh and sports games are always fun to see :) You could go and see the baseball, September is a month early for NBA and NHL though.

Lol I didn't say it was good. It was cheap, it was in an amazing location and we grew to love it by the end. So what if in the draw there was a condom and no bible. I've stayed in worse places when travelling aus/Asia.
