NZXT 820 case help

I have recently purchased an NZXT 820 from overclockers and have got the majority of my components inside of the case. However I have a few cables remaining at the back along with what I assume are the pre-installed fan cables as they are not working currently.
Some of the cables are labeled:
- POWER SW x 1
- RESET SW x 1
- HD AUDIO x 1
- H.D.D LED x 1
- IS x 1 (That I can see)

I then have some other cables with single letter labels such as 'R' and 'F' which I assume stand for rear and front. If you can give me any help with what I should be doing with these cables it would be massively helpful, especially with the fans.

If you trace the two cables marked R and F, where do they lead to.

Your mobo manual will show where these cables go. Normally in a port, bottom right corner of your mobo.

- POWER SW x 1 Goes to the Power On header on your motherboard, lower right maybe..
- RESET SW x 1 Similar as above, goes to the reset header, right next to the power one
- HD AUDIO x 1 Goes to the HD Audio Header near Power Header
- H.D.D LED x 1 Goes to HDD Activity Header, again near the others
- IS x 1 (That I can see) Maybe the SD Card Reader, does it look like an internal USB Connection?

This might help if you do not have it.

They lead to the corresponding fan. Rear, front and top.

Your mobo manual will show where these cables go. Normally in a port, bottom right corner of your mobo.

I have the P9X79 mobo and as far as I can tell most of these wires do not apply to it.

You can see at the bottom there is a power-on switch and a reset switch which leaves me to believe that those cables have no use with this mobo.

I wanted to add that the cables which are for the fans are all male which is where I am having the problem as I cannot insert them into the mobo as that is also male.

Are you sure they aren't the cables for the inbuilt fan controller? You can connect a few fans and use the buttons on the case to turn them up and down.

Labled "F" will control the front fan, "R" being the rear fan. You can toggle between which fan you are controlling using the button in the middle.

From what I can see those fans are already connected to the fan controller. The problem is I don't think the are receiving power which is what I think these cables I have do.

Just found the answer over on the toms hardware forum, i'll quote from there.

Usually, the way a fan controller works is that the psu plugs into it with a 4 pin molex connector.
(A large connector with 4 largish holes)
The fan controller then outputs to several fans using 3 pin leads.
Each output on the controller has a switch/rheostat that can reduce the voltage to the fan to slow it down.

I had forgot to plug in the molex connector basically which gives power to the rest the fan controller + fans. Thanks for all the help.

Those pins poking up on the bottom right of your motherboard are for the power/reset/HDDactivity cables. Please read your motherboard manual.

That would be a first, although a friends build that failed to start was down to the front panel IO cables. First reference to fix it motherboard manual.

Stubborn one though he spent 5 days while I was getting back from holiday without reading the manual...
