I have had a brand new C1200 atx 3.1 PSU in my system for the past month and a half with no issues and a few days ago I turned on the PC after work and it started making clicking noises.

Now I thought initially that this was just a cable contacting the fan and making the noise and it would happen each time I booted up the PC but I checked and nothing was contacting the fan at all.

Sometimes it even sounded pretty loud (almost dangerous) but the fan would eventually spin down if you had the low noise fan mode turned on and with the fan off the noises continued.

I have taken that PSU out as it sounded dodgy and some of the noises were almost electrical in nature which was concerning and some friends who listedened to a clip I made agreed with me.

I've now tested the PSU outside the case with just the mobo cable and a paperclip in pins 4+5 as the NZXT website directs you to do and the PSU makes no crackling / arcing noises at all ... what is going on?!

It's an older B450 AMD system with a 5800 X3D and a 7900XTX all of which I had running off a now 5 year old RM750x Corsair PSU previously without issue.
